Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Beadle.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve always been interested in art, ever since I was little. I was constantly drawing and creating stories, but it wasn’t until college that I decided that I wanted to combine my love of writing and drawing to create graphic novels, comics, and illustrated stories. I spent most of my time in high school and early college creating fine art pieces and attempting to paint before I fell in love with illustration and went back to my roots and started drawing again.
Please tell us about your art.
Recently I’ve been working on vignetted works featuring women and working on my second book that will be centered around living with depression. However most of my work centers around living as a woman in the current state of the world and is based around my own personal experiences. Creating these journalistic comics and illustrations help not only myself work through what’s in my head, but I also hope to create some more understanding of what it’s like to be a woman with mental illness.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I always feel it’s best to keep in touch with other artists that you may have gone to school with or attended outside classes with through social media and commenting. It’s also so helpful to find other artist communities either locally or online that you can join to keep the creativity flowing. Instagram and Twitter have been most helpful for me as I can keep in touch with artists I’ve already known or have met through galleries or other events.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Some of my work can be seen on my website, ashbeadle.com, that I update fairly frequently. Most of my work and daily illustrations can be found on my Instagram and twitter at @ashbeadle due to its convenience. The best way to support any artist is to follow their social media and buy prints or products that they put out.
