Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Krupa.
Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was about 8 years old, I had severe pain in both of my heels from playing sports. I was seen at a Dr. ‘s office and the advice I was given was to quit playing sports for a while and ‘see what happens’. I did not like that advice, in fact it made me quite upset. My mother, always looking out for my best interest, took me to see her chiropractor. I had no clue what a chiropractor was, but all I know is he wanted to help me find a way to get better, and get better I did. I was able to continue playing soccer and baseball with the help of him and my mother. This stuck with me throughout my high school playing years and I always thought chiropractic would be a great profession for me. When asked what I would be doing in 10 years in my high school yearbook, I said I would be a chiropractor. Here it is 20 years later and I have been practicing as a board certified chiropractic sports physician for 12 years continuing to help others feel and get better.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was always a planner. My path was decided in high school to become a chiropractor and I went straight through 8 years of college to become one. It was easy for me since I had that passion. Eight long years of school did feel like forever with long days and tough exams, but when I was done it was well worth it.
Holliston Spine & Sports Center – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I started Holliston Spine & Sports Center in June 2010 after purchasing the existing practice of Steven Katz. I worked with him for almost 2 years prior to that. It has always been a family practice, but I enjoy working with athletes as much as I can. I consider my office a spot in a smaller town that can take care of most injuries without the need for my patients to seek care in surrounding towns and cities. Along with the chiropractic adjustment, we also offer non-surgical spinal decompression, low level laser therapy, foot orthotics, and other modalities. This separates us from other local chiropractors as we offer more. I strive to make patients very comfortable while in my office and never force any treatment. Some chiropractors become a ‘salesperson’ and I am far from that.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I would say I do not have one specific moment that makes me proudest. Enjoying working for myself since 2010 has been phenomenal, but each day when that phone rings and new patients call to be seen on the recommendation of others, it feels great.
