Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Varrelman.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My career over the last thirty years has been primarily in the banking, finance, and investment industry. Along the way I have had the opportunity to work for large institutions and startup companies. I left the industry to help develop and produce an Academy Award winning film. Over the course of my varied career I’ve had many different experiences. What I discovered on my journey was that what I enjoyed most was working with people that had a creative idea and helping facilitate that idea into a successful venture.
It came up with Traverse Women’s Financial. I chose this name as I love challenging hikes and climbs, traversing the terrain to the summit. I want to help and guide women to their personal summit.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far it’s been a challenging climb but I just started in January. I want what I do to speak for itself in the guidance I provide. That will come with each client I help. Most women have a great business idea but get stuck when it comes to analyzing the viability of their idea and turning it into a profitable business. Finding sources of financing can be overwhelming as well. I help provide guidance on this and help to steer them in the right direction.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Traverse Women’s Financial – what should we know?
I’ve taken on several new endeavors of my own. It is scary and unsettling but at some point you just decide to take that risk. I left solid, solidly compensated positions to take these risks so I’ve walked the walk and can share my experiences. I try to make the business planning and forecasting process less intimidating to women.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being a good listener. You have to find out exactly what each person is looking to achieve and why. That only comes by listening and not having any preconceived ideas.
