Meet Lynn Bailey Witty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Bailey Witty.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a singer songwriter, artist, and actor. I began performing professionally when I was nine on the stages of Manhattan. I have always been passionate about the arts. Recently, I released Among the Stars, an album of my own original songs. It was exciting for me to have a compilation of my own original songs & artwork on the album cover. I have enjoyed recording for many years in recording studios on other artists’ projects as well as my own. I have been fortunate to perform at some wonderful venues including: Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Centennial Hall, The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College, Club Passim, The Burren, The Comic Strip NY, Manhattan Theater Club, Merrill Auditorium, Portsmouth Music Hall, Tres Gatos, Soul fest, and Westchester Broadway Theater.

I have been given the opportunity to perform with amazing talented artists including: Vanessa Williams, Michael McDonald, Ossie Davis, Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops, Hamilton’s Leslie Odom, Jr, American Idol’s John Stevens, Rob Mathes, Paul Baloche, and Tim Janis. PBS featured me as a special guest artist on two nationally broadcasted programs: “Beautiful America” with George Clooney and “American Christmas Carol” with James Earl Jones. I have also worked in television and film and have done national commercials, voice overs and jingles. I am a visual artist and have shown my paintings in galleries and shows around the Boston area. I enjoy connecting with other artists and have collaborated to create music and art events.

Please tell us about your art.
I am interested in the story. When I choose a song to sing I look closely at the lyrics to see if it is a story I can really tell. When I create one of my abstract paintings, my hope is that people will look and find something that resonates with their own story in my art. I am inspired by the beauty I see around me in the world and in others. I enjoy writing songs about love and loss. They are two of the most common human experiences. They remind us of our humanity and connection to one another and the world.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
If you are able to create what you feel is your best work & share it with the world then that is a success. If you are able to not lose your sense of play as you create then that is a success. If you are able to create a living for yourself doing what you enjoy then that is truly a success. Keep creating.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I am constantly creating and performing. I play out regularly in the Boston area and beyond. I have a show coming up in July that is a collaboration with two other female singer songwriters at The Burren on July 8 https://tickets.burren.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=327. It is an opportunity to connect with other artists and support one another and our work. More information about upcoming music and art shows can be found on my website: www.lynnbaileywitty.com. I am an independent artist so it is greatly appreciated when you purchase my album & come to see me play!
