Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Dent.
Krystal, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a hairstylist/makeup artist for 9 years. I started at Calma Salon Beauty Boutique in Cranston RI. My Salon sponsers all the pageants in RI, which has opened a lot of doors for me as well as making new connections and friends! I specialize in hair, makeup, and airbrush tanning. My salon is also full service. We offer color, skincare, lashes, tanning, makeup, and on location services as well!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are defiantly a lot of challanges in this field of work. You have to have patience, professionalism, and of course a good personality! One of the biggest challanges I think is that you cannot make everyone happy! If you are open to constructive criticism and take everything as a learning curve you will be successful. Patience is key. With any client!

I think what sets me apart from other artists is that I like the more natural look that is my thing! I like to bring out clients natural beauty without them feeling like they don’t look at themselves.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
The most important piece of advice I would give would be don’t be scared! Take charge of your career and watch it take off! Also promoting your work is a big factor in promoting yourself. I’ve noticed I’ve become busier just from showing off my work!
