Life and Work with Marianne Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marianne Nelson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always loved color. Simply put, color makes me happy. As a kid, I would rearrange the entire box of crayons in rainbow order. I would marvel at the different shades and hues, completely awestruck by the collection of colors.

I was lucky enough to work in the costume jewelry industry for over 8 years and learned a lot from the girls I worked along side. When branching out on my own, I knew that my love of color would drive my work. When creating designs for my jewelry, I pull inspiration from the bright, colorful patterns found in the textiles of our world’s cultures, and the vast, breathtaking beauty that occurs naturally throughout our globe.

With Marianna Mae, my goal is to inspire people with color. Many times, in the hustle and bustle of our busy world, we lose sight of what truly makes us happy. My jewelry serves as a reminder to follow your heart, live out your passions, and keep your life fun and filled with colorful moments.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think that in the fast paced world driven by social media “likes”, it is hard not to get sucked into the feeling that everyone else is on the fast track to having a successful business. Just remember… be proud of who you are and your dream. Start somewhere. ANYWHERE. Work Hard. Be consistent and persistent and remember the future is EXCITING!

Please tell us about Marianna Mae Design.
My main focus is on fun, colorful, coco beaded stretch bracelets. I also make beaded hoop earrings and custom beaded necklaces.

I love the contrast of the bright colored coco beads mixed with a little glitz with the rhinestone rondelles, finished off with a cotton tassel of course!

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I am a true believer in hard works pays off. I think women are killing it right now in so many different industries, so I don’t necessarily think there are barriers. I do know this: I believe it truly comes down to setting a goal and crushing it. I love the quote by Pablo Picasso…”Inspiration exists but it has to find you working.”

Pricing:

  • Beaded Coco Stretch Bracelets range from $12-$18
