Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Dufour.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tanya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Leopard Lace and Cheesecake back in 2013 after feeling like I wanted to take on a hobby in my spare time. Beauty and fashion have always been interests in my life, so I decided to focus my blog on these two subjects. LLC is a place that I can share my passions with other people that share the same interests. I started with fashion posts and then moved to beauty reviews and tutorials. I also started a YouTube channel to go along with my blog. My most popular posts are beauty reviews and fashion hauls. I also share my monthly favorites and makeup tutorials. My favorite content to create are OOTD posts. My blog has given me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people and work with some really awesome brands.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think that blogging/being a beauty and fashion influencer will always be a struggle in some ways. The reason I started was to inspire others and because I really enjoy beauty and fashion. I have to remind myself of that sometimes. There will always be a struggle when it comes to comparing yourself to other influencers. Also, trying to figure out the constantly changing algorithm on Instagram and how to consistently grow your following. My advice to other women just starting their journey is to focus on WHY you are doing what you are doing. Try not to obsess over the numbers but also know that nothing comes without hard work. You must be consistent and put in the time to be successful.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Leopard Lace and Cheesecake (my blog) – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
One of the main things I do is review beauty products. I love testing out all the newest products on the market and sharing my thoughts with my readers. I rely heavily on reviews when it comes to deciding if I want to purchase a product. I know many other people do the same. Another thing I love to do is create makeup looks with these products. I have always been artistic and feel that makeup is a form of expression. I’m not a makeup artist but rather a makeup enthusiast. I like to show people that you don’t have to be a makeup artist to create some really beautiful looks. I love that a few simple steps can accentuate your features and boost your self confidence. When it comes to fashion, its been part of my life for many many years. I remember having fashion shows with my older cousin when I was a younger and even at a very young age copying the latest fashion trends. Its such a great feeling putting on a new outfit and feeling like a million bucks. One thing that I always stress is you don’t have to spend a TON of money to be fashionable. I like to focus on affordable fashion in a lot of ways as I know that the average person can’t afford high-end designer fashions. My fashion hauls and outfit of the days always include affordable pieces and I often give tips on how to save even more money. I think what I am most proud of when it comes to my blog and other social media accounts is the consistency that I have kept up over that past 5 years. You have to put in a lot of hard work and I am proud that I have been able to juggle this on top of working full time. I think what sets me apart from others is my passion for the beauty and fashion. Anyone that knows me personally knows that when I talk about these subjects my eyes light up and I can go on and on for hours at a time.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel like women have more opportunities than ever in 2018. I think that we are more accepted in the business world but also in other industries that you didn’t normally see women in years ago. The possibilities are endless. I honestly feel that we can do anything we set our mind to. I think that a very important thing that we must continue to do is build each other up, support each other, and be united instead of feeling like we are competing with one another. I strongly believe that a woman president is in our future.
