Conversations with the Inspiring Rosemary Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosemary Gonzalez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rosemary. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
How I knew makeup was my passion was when my friends asked me to do their makeup even though I did not have any experience or knowledge about it. I remember my good friend came to me and told me I should take a course or go to school for makeup, which I did and got my certificate as a makeup artist. I then started looking for jobs in makeup store like Sephora, M.A.C, inside Macy’s etc.. and finally, M.A.C decided to hire me as a part-time artist. Working there I gained a lot of experience with skin color, skin type, different techniques on how to apply makeup and learned a lot from other makeup artists. I work with the company for 4 years.

Then, I started freelancing by giving myself a name in the makeup industry. Now, I have 10 years providing my makeup services to people. I also have a Youtube channel where I share tips and tricks that I’ve learned throughout the years. And that’s how MakeupByRose started.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth road with a little bit of struggle because I had to get a 9-5 job working some weekends in order for me to support myself and pay my bills. I did lose a few clients because on weekends is when they had an event to go to and I was not available at the time. But then I balanced myself to be free on the weekends to keep providing my makeup services to clients.

My advice to those who are starting their journey is to be themselves, be authentic, work hard towards their goals and where they want to be in their near future. Always believe in themselves that they can do anything they put their mind and soul to it. And it is ok to make mistake because that’s how they learn to be better and stronger.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into MakeupByRose story. Tell us more about the business.
I focus more on the editorial field.

I am more known for the natural, soft looks I create for my client and the good customer service I provide.

What makes me proud as a makeup artist is to bring the confidence, self-esteem, the happiness to my clients once they look in the mirror and see how beautiful they are with and without makeup. Creating that bond and connection with them. It brings me joy and it motivates me to continue to the best makeup artist I can be.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
My advice will be to remain true to them selfs. To be a good example for others that look after them and see that dreams can come true if you work hard towards your goal.
