So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
LAN-TEL Communications, the leading structured cabling, security, and IT infrastructure installation and integration company in New England, launched in 1992 when I was released from a billion-dollar telecommunications company. I started the company in my basement with limited capital and a family I needed to support. It wasn’t easy to take such a leap but I have always had an entrepreneur mindset. My first, large clients were Hampshire College in Amherst Massachusetts, Polaroid and The Boston Garden. My goal is not to be the biggest low voltage integrator, but the best. In my early days I worked from 4am to midnight.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road; I don’t think any business is without challenges but I believe perseverance, a dedication to quality work and a great team has been key to my success over the past 26 years. Business struggles have included limited cash flow when I started and persuading other companies to work with a “new business.” Launching a business is a risk not everyone is prepared to take. In 1994, I began working with IBEW Local 103 and we now have 105 union technicians in the field. My background was in the union and I was confident in the workforce and labor.
At LAN-TEL, we keep the focus on ensuring our clients are happy and satisfied with a quality job. We put the client first and remain focused on quality service and work. Our priority is the client and we configure, install, and maintain security and cabling solutions for a wide variety of applications across a diversified client base.

Our key strength is our people and our technicians – the majority who have been with us since day one. Our field people are the best hands down. I am most proud of my team and the group of people I have assembled over the past 26 years.
LAN-TEL is the Commonwealth’s “go-to” relied upon public safety network integrator having provided hundreds of wireless video security system installations throughout New England. Our project portfolio contains small schools and towns in New England to large public safety networks for cities and communities in Greater Boston.
Our client list also contains some of the largest and most prestigious hospitals and universities, numerous public safety and law enforcement organizations, many prominent entertainment venues and theatres, as well as some of the region’s most well-respected financial institutions and law firms. Increasingly, LAN-TEL Communications’ business relationships extend to leading-edge companies that are sprouting in Cambridge and the Seaport Innovation District.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc.?
There have been HUGE changes happening as technology is always rapidly evolving. We pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve. We also don’t believe we can predict what will happen with technology and we don’t try to – with the speed things change, its inaccurate for any company to proclaim they can predict technology. We are confident our knowledge and capabilities will always keep us at the forefront of the industry.
Unfortunately, security is needed at every building whether it’s a large condominium complex, commercial building in the city or a small suburban school – cameras, access control, surveillance technology, indoor shooter detection, and technology that protects people and our world is crucial and LAN-TEL is proud to be at the forefront of this industry.
