Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Jane.
Sara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started honing my craft in the hair world in the South End of Boston over a decade ago. I built my clientele there, starting as an assistant and working my way to stylist and then I moved salons and rented a chair where I learned a lot about the business. I’ve lived in Salem for almost 9 years now and I knew it was time to bring what I had learned to the Witch City.
Has it been a smooth road?
During the process of opening the salon there were most definitely snags that come along with any business, along with overhauling a historic building that needed a lot of work. We acquired the space in April of last year and after city and state inspection, we finally opened on August 22nd, 2017. It’s been a whirlwind for sure, but 100% worth it.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Moon Baby Hair Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Moon Baby Hair Studio is a salon located in Downtown Salem, Ma. We offer high end, current and classic haircuts and color services as well as cruelty-free and vegan-friendly products. In the shop, you can also find vintage and antique wares for purchase. We are known for our color services, especially our vivid colors, but we do it all! I have always loved formulating reds and copper tones and natural highlights as well. We carry Pulp Riot, Pravana, Eleven Australia, Loma and Amika.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the whole vibe in Salem. I commuted to Boston for work for 8 years on the commuter rail and there was always this calmness that you could feel once you heard the conductor announce “Now arriving in Salem” or when you would see the “Entering Salem” signs while driving. We have a great mayor, great community, so many small businesses opening and so much more. It’s really grown in the past few years and I love it. I love being here for the community and offering them a space to be themselves and express themselves.
