Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia DeVries.
Patricia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Chevere opened its doors in January of 2011 as a little bead shop, Chevere has grown to be so much more than beads. It’s the perfect place to find unique apparel, handmade jewelry, accessories and gifts. In 2014 we relocated to a space twice as big becoming an amazing bead shop where you are always welcome to design, create or have me create the perfect piece of jewelry for you. Chevere has grown into a boutique that carries a chic line of clothing that can’t be found in the area. Some of my favorite gifts that you can pick up at Chevere are Bedrock Candles, Auric Blends Oils, Spitfire sunglasses, Harvey’s Soaps, handbags and greeting cards.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
After Chevere thrived for the first five years with beads, jewelry and gifts sales slowed down. That’s when a boutique was added to the store. I haven’t regretted that decision at all. Together with an amazing fashion consultant, Jen White, the apparel at Chevere has been a great success. Jen’s passion is fashion and I’m fortunate that she is the buyer for Chevere.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Chevere is a unique store. It offers handmade jewelry, beads, unique apparel, handbags. Most of the gifts that Chevere carries are locally made in Massachusetts. Handbags by Kathryn Brooke, candles by Bedrock, auric blend oils, creams by Herbs Make Scents and so much more.
Customers can use the open studio at any time to create and finish their projects with my help or they can order a special piece that I create for them.
Chevere offers classes, parties, girl’s night out, and always in a friendly atmosphere.
What were you like growing up?
In my early twenties, since the days of selling tie-dye shirts at flea markets in Capitola, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco to make ends meet, beads were my hobby. My eclectic unique designs, some with my colorful Latin influence, are for all occasions. I’m blessed with a loving supportive family and dear friends who help to ground me so I can make my dreams come true.
