Meet Rose Maurent of Rose Royalty in Roslindale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Maurent.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My interest in makeup really picked up during my years of college in Atlanta. I would be asked to do my friends makeup for pageants, sorority events, and photo shoots. That quickly grew into doing makeup for huge events outside of school such as weddings, graduations, baby showers, proms and many other events. I continued doing makeup (on the side) throughout my college career. As I continued honing my craft, I was hit by two tragic deaths (my father and brother) in a very short span of time and lost my entire drive for continuing any desires I had in makeup. I completely stopped all things makeup. If anyone asked me, I wouldn’t explain, just “no”. In 2015 I moved to the Boston Area and was still very unwilling to pursue my dreams. In 2016, I was asked to do a friends face for her senior photos and something instantly lit up inside of me. I remembered why I loved doing what I did. Her reaction as well as her family and friends reactions to my work, reminded me that I not only loved doing makeup, but I was pretty good at it. I slowly picked up the makeup brush and began to touch not only faces but lives. I haven’t looked back ever since.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been anything but smooth. Other than the tragedies that halted my growing process, I doubted myself when I saw the work of others who have been doing makeup for years. I compared my novice skills to their 10plus years of experience. I had to learn quite a few things along my journey. #1 was that, comparing my work to anyone else is detrimental to my confidence as an aspiring makeup artist. #2 was that, I had to remember that before they reached where they were, they were once on my level. Everyone starts as a novice, but it takes patience, consistency and hard work to grow and get better. #3 is that, this industry is always changing, so even the most seasoned MUA is learning new skills.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rose Royalty – what should we know?
Rose Royalty is my makeup artistry brand name. I want everyone to know that they are Royalty (1 Peter 2:9) and that makes them Queens. My Motto “Beauty Lies Within” came to be because I want all the Queens whose face I touch to know, they were already beautiful before I touched them. I also pride myself in making sure each Queen knows the beautiful features of their face that will be accented because I enhance beauty not change anyone’s face.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The quality I believe is most important to my success as a makeup artist is my passion for the artistry, my humble and serving nature, my willingness to learn, and my ability to take criticism.
