Meet Sohail Masood of KabaFusion in Waltham and Shrewsbury

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sohail Masood.

Sohail, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a serial entrepreneur. I have created and sold two companies since 1992. I am on my third company, KabaFusion. They all provided services to home infusion/home health industry. We provide intravenous drugs and nursing to the patients at home. It saves tremendous cost to the insurance companies, provided added comfort to patients who do not need to drive to a hospital or an infusion center to get these services.

I arrived in America in 1981 as a 19 years old student. I graduated from university of Southern California with a Doctor of Pharmacy in 1988. I started my first home infusion company in 1992 after I saw a need for a specialty drug, Intravenous Immune Globulin (IVIG) for neuromuscular diseases. I received an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 1999 and another one in 2017 in healthcare. I have a daughter who just graduated from Wellesley College. My son, Omar has Down Syndrome. He graduated from the LABBB program at Lexington High, MA this year. He owns and runs a comic book store in Lexington, MA called “Omar’s World of Comics & Hobbies”. My wife is a pharmacist too but now a stay home mom.

I am the Founder and CEO of KabaFusion. Our West Coast corporate office is in Los Angeles, CA and East Coast corporate office in Waltham, MA.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
All early start ups have ups and downs. Since I started all my businesses with my own money, I had even harder time meeting financial needs of a growing company. KabaFusion is one of the largest privately held home infusion company in America with seven (7) office nationwide providing services to patients in over 40 states.

Startup companies require a lot of financial commitment and long hours away from your family. I am glad that my wife and children are very patient. There were few times when I felt that I may need to just file bankruptcy and walk away. I couldn’t do it. I felt obligated to the people providing me with medications and services. I could not leave them hanging dry. Our hard work and patience paid off. KabaFusion if growing exponentially with a very healthy profit margin.

KabaFusion – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
KabaFusion is a privately held national home infusion company with offices in seven states; and, providing services in over 40 states. Offices are in Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Boston. Pursuant to a doctor’s order, my pharmacists mix the drugs in our highly specialized infusion pharmacies, send the drugs out to the patients’ homes. An infusion nurse then goes to the patients’ homes to infuse the drugs. We provide services to patients with all kinds of insurances, including commercial and governmental.

KabaFusion provides any and all infusion services. However, we specialize in giving Intravenous Immune Globulin (IVIG). IVIG is used for various diseases, including neuromuscular diseases and skin disorders. I am very proud of our clinicians, nurses and pharmacists, who take care of their patients as the patients are their own family members. We higher highly skilled clinicians who know what they are doing.

Our competitive pricing, geographical coverage, private ownership and clinical expertise separates us from the majority of our competitors.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe if you set goals for yourself and you meet these goals, it is success. While achieving your goals, you also get a pride and joy in your endeavors, it’s a double success. While you are reaching your goals, and you are getting financial rewards, if you are also serving the humanity, then it’s triple success. In my book, Bill Gates meet all these criteria.
