Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Otuechere and Steven Julien-Stewart.
Katherine and Steven, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I picked up my first camera while in college with no intentions on making photography/ film a career. Although this was a perfect way to express my creativity, school was my main priority. Soon after, the post-graduate narrative crept in. Which is this waiting game to land a job. I decided to use that down time to reignite my passion for creating. I vowed to “just do it!” and shortly after, I was traveling the world to film… to this day it still boggles my mind. That opportunity turned me into the ultimate risk-taker.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the greatest obstacle for anyone starting out, is establishing creditability as a novice. In order to get the right clientele, you have to prove your capabilities. So sometimes you are coerced to work with people who are uninterested or not as passionate as you are.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Neighbors Media Team – what should we know?
“The Neighbors” is media Production Company that specializes in music videos, short films, documentaries, commercials, web series and photography. What sets us apart is creativity and resourcefulness. No idea is too big or too small for us. We also work our way around little to no budget. But most importantly, we have figured out how to quickly establish a good rapport with our clients. As cheesy as it may sound, our key ingredient is doing and treating everything with love.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
To me, success is relative. Success is doing what you love while simultaneously helping others. It involves patience, open-mindedness, risk taking and consistency. It is also the process of unlearning and relearning.
