Meet Ashley Douglas of Ashley Rose Design in Milford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Douglas.

Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had a passion for design. When I was little I would constantly paint my room different colors and rearrange my furniture. I knew I was going to have a career in the design field. I attended Mount Ida College and received an accredited Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. I really enjoyed my time at Mount Ida, it was an amazing program with a great faculty. After college I did a design internship for a hospitality design firm. That was a great stepping stone for my career. After my internship was over I discovered a job for an interior design assistant and home stager. Home Staging? What is that? I didn’t know a lot about home staging prior to taking the job and I never considered it to be a part of interior design. I loved it! I realized that home staging was my passion and I could not see myself doing anything else. After six months at this job I became head home stager. I was designing all the looks; I was in charge of the crew and the daily tasks. I knew I always wanted to start my own business. After almost three years at that company, I decided to start Ashley Rose Design! I am so glad I made that decision and I couldn’t be happier!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been a few bumps in the road. In college the faculty tries to mentally prepare you for a career in the design field, it requires a lot of focus and a lot of hard work. The design field is very cut-throat and you have to be somewhat aggressive and have tough skin. I consider myself a go getter and I was up for the challenge. I think my biggest obstacle was making the leap to go on my own. I knew I had the drive and the talent to do it but it was a scary decision. While being self-employed is a great thing it can also be stressful at times. Luckily I have a great support system at home and I have an amazing group of business owners that are always there for advice.

Please tell us about Ashley Rose Design.
Ashley Rose Design offers full interior design services. This includes color consultations, flooring & lighting selections, kitchen & bath design, space planning, home styling, and small renovations.

Home staging is a large part of my business and my favorite part! I offer a staging consultation for realtors or homeowners who just want a quick walkthrough of their space. I walk through and give them a detailed list of what I feel needs to be done to their home to appeal to potential buyers. I also offer partial and full staging which includes furniture rentals. This is a great option for new construction or for a homeowner that may only need one or two pieces. Selling a home can be a very stressful time for people and I love my job because I can help relieve some of that stress while also making their house look fabulous. I think what sets Ashley Rose Design apart from other companies is we have an extremely experienced staff that allows us to give our customers million dollar home staging that doesn’t break the bank!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would be going to work with my mom. I use to love to go to work with her and pretend I was a business woman! I couldn’t wait to grow up and be an adult. When you start to get older you realize sometimes being an adult isn’t as fun!
