Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Callan.
Grace, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a passion for styling hair. From a very young age, it has brought me joy. For the last 12 years, I have worked at HC Studio. While the majority of my time is spent behind the chair in the studio, I also frequently travel to work on-site at special events throughout New England.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was fortunate to start my career at a salon with a very strong apprenticeship program. It gave me the skills and confidence to start building my career.
I now work at a salon that provides a very supportive and flexible atmosphere. As a mother of two young children, I feel privileged to have this amazing career in which I can work the hours I want to and still be home to spend time with my family.
Please tell us about Grace Callan Hair.
Every client has unique needs and styles, and being able to help them articulate that is such a gratifying part of my job. Creating the perfect cut with the right amount of precision and texture is pure joy for me. Discovering the best color for a client that either brightens them up or gives their hair the right dimension is really rewarding and fun.
I take pride in my attention to detail, particularly when working on a photo shoot or doing wedding hair. It’s exciting to be on location and an honor to be part of someone’s wedding day.
Who have you been inspired by?
I find it very important to continue my education. I’ve learned and been inspired by some of the top stylists including the Jacques Dessange Academy in Paris. I love taking advantage of social media to both build my own brand and also to gather creative ideas from others every day.
