Meet Racheal Provencher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Racheal Provencher.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
When I was a junior in high school my dad bought me my first camera. It was a Nikon L110 point and shoot. I took pictures of bugs, rocks, my pets, and occasionally my sister. I never really thought photography would become my greatest passion back then.

That summer, going into senior year of high school I had some friends who needed yearbook photos and I had a camera so I took their picture. They all gave me $20 or something just to say thanks, I wasn’t even expecting to be paid. It was a really awesome feeling that people appreciated my work enough to pay me for it.

Shortly after realizing that more and more people wanted ME to take their photo I got a new camera, photographed my sister as often as possible, more friends, friends of those friends and here I am 5 and a half years later, a college graduate, and a full-time portrait and wedding photographer.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a natural light portrait and wedding photographer. It’s usually me, my Nikon D750, and my 50mm lens creating the art. My main goal is to create images that people can have forever and remember those moments years and years down the road.

Capturing love is probably my favorite. I like spending time with lovers. whether it be at their engagement shoot or their wedding; being able to give them a product showing their raw, real love is just so rewarding.

When people see my work, I hope they feel something. I want my work grab people and I want them to form some sort of reaction. I want my work to be different, and I want people to know that when they look at it, that it is mine. I spend so much time creating, and so much thought goes into making each photo special, and I hope that when people look at my work they can tell how passionate I really am.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
As an artist, I believe success is when you are fully enjoying what your producing. To me success is not making the most money, booking the most clients, working with famous models/photographers etc., but fully loving what you are doing and loving your work. For a long while I was not loving the content I was creating, but I powered through, kept taking photos, and investing in my business and at this point I can say I have reached a level of success because I do love what I am producing.

To become successful each artist needs to have drive. We all need to be driven to push through the time when we feel uninspired and when we feel our work is not good enough and eventually with lots of hard work we will reach a point that the work we are putting out is something that makes us proud.
