Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey D. Briggs, Social U Founder & President.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
From a young age, my inquisitive mind took over my body and I always asked questions beyond the surface. I sought out human testimonies and asked a lot of whys because I loved to understand how people thought and the connection to them came from understanding them on a deeper level. I started my young journey in the field as an intern for WCVB Channel 5’s Newsroom and Chronicle show. I have an extensive background in broadcast media and working in the video production, social & digital marketing, and writing space within higher education institutions. During the year of 2012 shortly after gaining my Masters in Broadcast Digital Journalism from Syracuse University, I started my business Social U. Social U Is a social media consulting service that helps passionate creatives brand themselves online by simply telling their story. A lot of times we think it’s enough to just ask what someone’s business is or “what they do” without having an understanding of the personal story that has propelled success.
Who has time for basic surface small talk when the history, dreams, work, and vision of your business are all a part of your business story? Our journeys are much a part of our growth as well as the growth of our businesses. Social U is a platform that encourages you to speak truth to power, and authentically share involving your online social audience. In 2014, I became a mother and a lot of elements of my personal and professional journey shifted. It’s been my mission to share my personal truths while also bringing hope to other mothers in my newest project: The Working Mothers Documentary.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a storyteller striving to change narratives. I currently host a magazine show called ‘Around Town’ on Boston Neighborhood Network- focusing on stories in and around the Boston Community. I love that I have worked within a few different spaces that ALL reinforce my purpose for storytelling and create new insights for me to explore stories every day.
Most stories have to do with Art around the city, Youth, and new developments and programs that uplift the Community.
Through Social U my mission is to show people that it’s not necessarily what you do that has the power, but the stories behind WHY you do what you do is the power that needs to be unleashed. Tell that story. I love to help people do this through video and creating a digital media platform where their stories can be told. My favorite part is of course actually sitting and having a dialogue and questions organically coming to mind as I am immersed in their insights.
I am currently working on a Documentary Project highlighting the stories of Mothers and their journeys. The Working Mother’s Documentary highlights one of Social U’s core values, which is Authenticity. Your story is your truth and sharing it (good, bad, and indifferent) can both push and affirm your purpose into action. Sometimes you don’t know how strong you are until you’re shining with resilience in situations you’d thought you never be in. But life shows up, and you can either Let up or Boss Up! I get real on my experiences and story as a first time Mother which helped birth The Working Mothers Documentary (#WorkingMothersDoc). The struggles birthed resilience and strength and my story has prompted the space for other working Moms to acknowledge and share their inspiring journeys from trials to triumphs.
My newest production project I am developing is a documentary project-highlighting the resilience and dope journeys of hardworking Moms who’ve thrived and blossomed through hard times.
Looking for Moms willing to tell their powerful stories on camera.
If you have a story that can help other Moms, a journey of trials to triumph, and continuously living an authentic life with your child(ren) while reaching your goals in your career and business… This is for you!
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success is being present in every moment on your journey and realizing Greatness never comes with ease. The journey has its ups and downs and it’s important to relish in all of it. With the Great times, be motivated by how far you’ve come and with the not so great times- be confident that the lessons learned through it all will be invaluable as you seek out to do more.
My definition of Success is how one uses their gifts, talents, and skills to serve people. Success is not just for you but should be measured by the lives touched. When you’re serving people, you are also serving yourself.
It is essential to always be intentional about your vision as you go after it and take on opportunities that align with your business mission. Over time, I’ve learned to never let any person or circumstance deter me from the vision that is inside of me. Success calls for major endurance. Boss up!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
