Meet Trailblazer Nikki Pilz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Pilz.

Nikki, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out my journey in the beauty industry in my younger teen years. Although my passion for being creative and enhancing the beauty in something or someone started long before that.

I was first licensed as a Nail Technician to be able to surround myself in a salon atmosphere, while I continued my education in cosmetology. I started my career in Andover, MA, where after 2 years of training, I then ventured out into other cities such as North Andover, Haverhill, and Methuen. Of course, eventually finding myself coming back to my roots in Andover. I have acquired over 12 plus years in the industry, as well as numerous certifications and advanced education.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not (laughs). Starting out in any industry at such a young age is an obstacle all in itself. It took a lot of proving myself, long hours, and a little extra hustle and bustle to get people to take me more seriously. Besides being young, the beauty industry is always going to challenge you, because it’s forever evolving. There’s always going to be a new trend, a new product line, a new celebrity that inspires a certain look or style, etc. My advice would be to stay strong, stay motivated, and keep your eye on the prize. Anyone can do something and every road is rocky, but it’s how you come out at the end of that road, that separates you from the next person.

We’d love to hear more about Salon Forza.
I would have to say I’m most proud of my relationships with my guests. In both my personal and my professional life, I am a strong believer in loyalty and trust. It’s not just about them remaining loyal to you and the services you offer, it’s about establishing a level of trust and understanding, so that they know you’re there for them and what they want and need, even if it’s just for a cup of coffee, a good chat, and a quick blow dry. Something that small can be exactly what someone needed that day.

I have a lot of fun behind my chair, where I specialize in both coloring, cutting, and makeup artistry. I would have to say I’m probably known for my speed and efficiency. A lot of my guests like to pop in during their lunch breaks or before they have to pick their kids up from school, so being able to help someone achieve a completely new look, that doesn’t take up their entire day is usually greatly appreciated.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Don’t give up. You will fall down, but you will get back up. Just because something is not serving its purpose to you at that time in your life, does not mean there isn’t something out there that will. Stay motivated.
