Meet Barbara Chisholm of WACA TV in Metro West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Chisholm.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Barbara . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I graduated from college I taught High School Business for a short while before working in government agencies. After moving to Ashland, I became involved in at that time the new field of Community Television. I began my career in community media on the local board of directors. After several years, I took a position as the Executive Director of our community media center where I still am employed. I have served for many years on the National and Regional Boards of our Trade Association helping to keep our industry thriving.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part it has been a very rewarding career. I enjoy my work immensely.

Please tell us about WACA TV.
We are the community media center for our town. We have grown over the last 25 years from airing programming on just 2 evenings a week to 24/7 coverage. We are extremely active in our community covering all important events throughout the town in our schools and our government as well as many entertaining shows including an award winning News Program. I am most proud of consist awards we have won both Nationally, Regionally and in our State.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Taking my first trip to Florida with my Mom and Aunt by train and getting to sleep over night on the train ride.
