Meet Charlotte Gibson of Wellness Connect in North Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Gibson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In theory, I started my journey with WC about 10 years ago when my children were young. My oldest was 7 and I was pregnant with my youngest. My 7 year old was having a lot of health issues. He had 5 cases of strep within 6 months and severe neck pain. I was being bounced from doctor to doctor with few answers. I realized that I had to advocate for my family’s health. I began resourcing outside of conventional medicine and found two practitioners who helped my son immensely. The seed was planted, what would healthcare look like if we had the time and resources combined with compassion? A few years later when my youngest was off to preschool I began Wellness Connect. I started my business as a woman and a mother. Through discussions with friends I realized many of us, myself included were struggling with who we were and what we wanted to be. We were overwhelmed with guilt for feeling like being mothers and wives weren’t enough. I wanted to accomplish two things: provide a safe space for women to feel vulnerable and empowered while also providing education for mothers/women to support them with their family’s health. Navigating the healthcare system is not only time consuming but exhausting and expensive. So I created what I thought was lacking, a virtual and physical space to support mothers/women.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When you start your own business there are always bumps in the road. Without them, it wouldn’t be a successful business. I am constantly growing, learning and evolving. I have had to learn when to say no and not be everything to everyone. Each time I have come across a hiccup or a stumbling block instead of seeing it as a negative obstacle, I have used it as a learning experience. All my experiences have helped me further develop my niche.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wellness Connect – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
WC is a wellness resource whose goal is to help individuals reach their optimal health physically and emotionally. Our primary focuses are empowering women and helping those with chronic or misdiagnosed illnesses. Our audience is mostly women, ranging from 40-70. A client recently said, “I love how WC supports this group who is typically forgotten and ignored.”

We are a virtual practice with a team of practitioners carefully vetted by myself. I work with each client to meet their individual needs to connect them to the appropriate practitioners. Our foremost concerns when meeting and working with clients is listening, efficiency and economics. Having been sick with 2 chronic illnesses, Lyme and SIBO, I can relate to the frustrations of bouncing from doctor to doctor without a diagnosis and the complications with insurance. Many clients come to WC because they are tired and feel they are at the end of their rope. WC is here to advocate for them by minimizing what they need to do while providing support throughout their healing and growth. I have learned from my experience having someone to help you navigate the process is essential, and unfortunately the doctors cannot do that alone all the time. I believe everyone deserves to reach optimal health both physically and emotionally. No client should ever leave feeling isolated or unheard. I am most proud of the safe space I have created for women to feel vulnerable, listened to and supported whether they are battling with chronic illness or discovering their life purpose. What sets us apart from other businesses is we are filling a void that people want and deserve when it comes to their health. I am bridging the gap between conventional and holistic medicine.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Wellness Connect plans to grow beyond the North Shore and meet the needs of others in the Greater Boston Area. We believe everyone deserves to be their best selves. As for big changes- We are Change, we are providing a service that is critical as more people are sick and have greater needs. People are tired of feeling poorly and not being heard. We are that breath of fresh air, that moment when you feel listened to and taken care of. We can provide many of our services virtually and cater to the client’s needs, this is critical when someone is battling with an illness or needs support.
