Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Standring.
Jeremy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My passion for photography started when I bought my first digital SLR canon camera and began taking pictures of my kids. At the time I was using Photoshop 7.0 to add fun backdrops and effects to the photos as a beginner the photos were pretty rough. From there I decided to further my photography knowledge and enrolled into New York Institute of Photography here is where I Learned and practiced the principles of light & photography. After two years of lessons I completed my schooling and started working part time for myself shooting whatever I could to gain experience. Being in the US Coast Guard and stationed in Gloucester opened many doors as I was able to travel and go where most couldn’t. I shot many weddings and family photos for fellow Coasties but it wasn’t until my transfer to Miami FL where I found my true calling. My wife and I decided that my Active duty military career was keeping me away from home and our kids, so we came to the decision that I would get off active after my contract in Miami was up and stay in the US Coast Guard Reserves, this way I would be home more and still have the privilege or serving our great country currently at the 16 year mark. While still living in Miami I enrolled into Miami international University of Art and design and started taking classes for the new world of digital photography, this is where I fell in love with Compositing. I began to study and learn the powerful and creative tools of Adobe Photoshop and have not stopped. Overtime (7 years) I became very skilled at my craft and started out on my own creating fun and exciting imagery. After we found our way back to Massachusetts, I quickly realized there was a need for a new style of photography one that hadn’t really changed much over the last 20 years. Youth Sports team and individual photos. I began to work and develop my own lighting and shooting style that increases photo day productivity and reduces the stress of organizing team photos. Once parents started seeing my blend of art and photography the word spread quickly, pretty soon I found myself opening up a studio office in the largest sports complex in the area. I think my blend of photography and digital art has changed the way folks around my area see sports photography. I have started using my green screen and cutting edge lighting techniques for more than just sports that includes Dance, figure skating and new craze of Cosplay. I never stop learning and furthering my education in the ever changing world of digital arts and Photography, my work has brought in a new fan base of almost 7k IG followers, I get very excited to be able to share my love of art with my fans, and love seeing the reactions I get when a new piece is posted.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Becoming an established and known Photographer is never easy and was not a smooth road for me. In today’s society everyone who owns a smart phone or a higher end DSLR considers themselves a professional photographers and many take amazing photographs most unfortunately do not and offer cheaper alternatives. Standing out amongst a vast sea of digital photos online is tough. You have to be versatile in every aspect of Photography. Getting people to know who you are and to recognize you work is and will always be a challenge. I found my niche in the form of composite photography. This has opened a whole new world for my brand and for ability to grow and develop myself as an artist.
