Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Bell.
Megan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My career here at New London Inn and The Coach House Restaurant began a decade ago. I was originally hired to serve in the restaurant (which then was named “Rockwells at the Inn”) a few nights a week to spend more time with my family. As time went on, I developed a real love and passion for the restaurant and began working a few nights more. Eventually I was promoted to bartender, then manager, and eventually General Manager of the whole business. I actually never intended on this being my career, but my love for the establishment and the love for my working family made it an incredibly easy transition/decision.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The last ten years have flown by! I love this place!
We all struggle at some point in our life, but in my mind if there is no struggle – than there is no progress.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about New London Inn & The Coach House Restaurant – what should we know?
The New London Inn and The Coach House Restaurant continues to bring quaint charm to our namesake town. We strive in top-notch service, delicious food with constant local specialties, comfortable and cozy amenities, and its dedicated support of numerous local businesses.
Our building was built in 1792; the New London Inn prides itself on its rich and long history. The Sargent family built this hotel and find fulfillment in retaining the history while still focusing on staying up-to-date in today’s modern world.
As a business we are most proud of supporting our community. Our establishment designed a program over a decade ago to give back. From October to June, The Coach House Restaurant features a program we call Thursday’s Child. We donate 50% of all proceeds to local non-profit organizations. This past year (2016-2017) we donated $26,754.55 to over 40 local non-profits.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
In the last few years I have really been able to take a step back to see my faults and more importantly my strengths. The one characteristic I feel has been the most important in my career is Self-Reliance. I have learned to shoulder responsibilities and to be accountable. I have made hard decisions and have learned to stand by them. I try to live by the motto: “To think for yourself is to know yourself.”
