Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Halliday.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started off in the industry running a small flower stand on Newbury Street. I then apprenticed at FloralArt in LA for a couple of years before moving back to Boston to start my own business. I had a boutique located within Portobello Road, ladies’ clothing and accessories shop in Chestnut Hill. The business took off quickly, so about 7 years ago, I moved into our brick-and-mortar store here in the South End. We have totally thrived here, moving into ten years in business we’re so excited for our next stage of growth.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For me, it’s always been about the details. As the company has grown, I know that I won’t be able to personally work on every project that goes out the door. That being said, the bigger the team gets, the more room there is for new creative ideas and designs – so it has resulted in some incredible work!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Table & Tulip – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a full-service floral design studio, which means we design and execute decor for weddings and events, send out regular floral deliveries, and provide weekly flowers to local businesses and restaurants, as well as some other specialty projects. One of my favorite new offerings we have is the floral design classes which are open to the public. Clients can purchase tickets on our website, and we provide an hour of instruction before setting folks loose to create their own special, seasonal arrangement, which everyone takes home at the end of the class. Plus we have a great time mingling in our garden beforehand with drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are thrilled with the slate of weddings we have scheduled this year, and we’re looking forward to seeing the beautiful new designs come to life that we’ve been planning with the couples. That side of the business is really exciting with new creative challenges and unique concepts being developed all the time. It’s so fun as an artist to work with clients who are game for trying new things and are open to experimentation.
