Meet Sergio Saadé of Three Wise Donkeys aka 3WD in Back Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sergio Saadé.

Sergio, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2009 we had the idea to extend the notion and possibilities of the humble t-shirt. The project has been since taken us around the globe and become something bigger and more inspiring than anything we could have imagined at the outset. From checking out factories in Bangladesh, to the fashion conscious youth of Beirut where we opened our first pop-up shop, to Boston USA where in 2014 we unveiled our flagship boutique store, we have been inspired by the many brilliant and wise people that are involved in the 3WD project.

With the launch of our new online platform at threewisedonkeys.com, 3WD is set to become the world’s first dedicated community for the creation, distribution and customization of socially responsible, culturally resonant, accessible design statements on garments that Do Good & Do Well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Establishing a first-of-a-kind concept was, by all means, an adventure into the unknown. We had to customize almost every aspect of the business, many times following a trial and error process, a concrete examples would be the e-commerce platform where we had to build a product listing, an inventory system and POS portals that are not found on ready to use platforms. We found ourselves looking for solutions from professionals around the world: Germany, Poland, Canada, USA, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and more.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Three Wise Donkeys aka 3WD – what should we know?
Established in 2010, the 3WD community is connected by a shared commitment to Do Good & Do Well through accessible design statements, to this end, we support artists and designers who are challenging and exploring the art of the t-shirt to create accessible products that people will enjoy customizing, wearing and sharing.

We use only garments sourced from factories that have been personally inspected by us and which meet our principles to Do Good & Do Well by the entire community, including those not yet born.

We also engage in charities, NGOs and other organizations, connecting them to designers and artists who can support and enhance their causes through 3WD.

We have just opened our flagship brick and mortar store located in the historic Back Bay area, found in between the Boston shopping destination of Newbury and Boylston Streets.
