Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Taylor.
Karina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a 23 years old Certified Makeup Artists. I am continuing my career as a future Cosmetic Nurse. I graduate from Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics in June and continuing on to nursing school to reach my goal as a cosmetic nurse.
My passion for makeup began in 2014, while working at Sephora in Boston Prudential center as a cashier. I learned so many things and was able to try so many products. As a cashier we were not allowed to put makeup on clients but I loved it so much I would sneak and do it anyway! I have been into freelance makeup for about 2 years now with a well-developed makeup kit to suit women of all colors and providing products from drugstore to luxury. My passion for makeup comes from making every woman and man feel beautiful. To provide that extra boost of confidence we all need. The smiles that leave my makeup chair are what really make me love the beauty industry.
I am excited to invest in the beauty industry from skin care to makeup and bring Boston advanced sophisticated knowledge to compete with other well beauty developed states such as LA and N.Y.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road! I have been independently living on my own since 19 years old. Putting myself through school and dealing with financial hardships. There have been times where I had to take a break from what I loved to be able to put extra food on the table. I stayed at Sephora until 2015 but realizing that the compensation wasn’t enough for me to live on my own. I had to find another way. It all worked out well, because I became even more passionate after having to take that break.
Beauty By K. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Beauty by K is all about bringing out that inner confidence we have. You have it in you; I am just here to boost it! I love making women feel powerful and unstoppable. I truly believe that when you look good, you feel good! There are so many women that put their personal needs on pause to take care of everything around them. I believe that when you sit in my makeup chair it is like a mini therapy session, you leave feeling and looking great.
Beauty by K. provides services as 1-1 classes, group classes, and makeup glams ranging from simple to over the top and glamourous. By the end of June, new things will be added such as lash extensions, waxing, eyebrow tinting and facials!
I am most proud of my company because I did it on my own. I let my work speak for itself and I feel like even though I am not able to be full time in my company, that people still see my work and creativity and respect it!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment of my career so far was my first bridal party. The bride was very stressed out and even went through an allergic reaction the day of her wedding but I was able to calm her down the second she says her makeup. It was like all her worries went away because she looked and felt beautiful on her special day.
