Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyvan Asdigha.
Keyvan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My co-owner Jeremy and I met during our freshman year of college, where we discovered that our mutual love for video games and complete lack of passion for higher education don’t quite complement each other. After being temporarily kicked out on academic probation, I ended up becoming an environmental scientist, and Jeremy a professional chef and restaurant manager.
Over the next 5 years, literally nothing exciting happened. Except for the League of Legends World Championships! – which Jeremy and I we’re dead-set on going out to watch in a bar, as it was very much a sort of Superbowl for us and millions of other players. Sadly, we only found one venue in Boston that year, set up at the request of patrons who brought in their own equipment to stream it over the bar’s TV’s. There was an equipment failure and no one got to watch the game. So we said “Fuck it. We’ll open our own gaming bar.”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was pretty easy. I don’t know why we didn’t do it sooner.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The GamePad – what should we know?
We created the GamePad to offer a place where you can immerse yourself in modern gaming while enjoying great food, award winning craft beer, and all your favorite classic and video-game inspired cocktails. We’re a full bar and lounge decked out wall to wall, with projector’s, televisions, comfortable furniture and console video games from every era, from the earliest home consoles to virtual reality.
We have a carefully crafted atmosphere, with a heavy focus on social gaming. Our library has been curated to feature almost entirely drop-in, simple to pick up couch co-op games where it’s easy to for friends, family, and complete strangers to jump into a game together for the first time.
What are you most proud of as a company?
When those complete strangers come back together as friends the next weekend to play the same game together.
What sets you apart from others?
We brew the beer we serve right on site. We also have full table service at our consoles, where our servers can provide you with anything from martini’s and food orders, to a game recommendations perfect for your party
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We would like to make very clear – no one else deserves any credit. We didn’t work very hard on it, but it was totally all us.
