Meet Sabine St. Pierre of Sabine’s Cuisine Personal Chef Services in Hopkinton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabine St. Pierre.

Sabine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up an athlete, my family has always placed a strong emphasis on a healthy lifestyle. When I became a Division 1 rower in college, I truly realized the importance of healthy, clean eating. Finding the campus cafeteria wasn’t providing me with the fuel to perform, I began preparing and cooking my own meals. My interest in combining ingredients to create a nutritious, tasty dish was sparked!

I went on to become a grade school teacher, and for 10 years, at the end of each day, I was excited to get back to the kitchen – the best therapy after a long day of teaching. I could not ignore my desire to spend hours experimenting with ingredients to create healthy meals!

In the fall of 2007, while hosting a family brunch, Sabine’s Cuisine was born. The combination of a lifetime of healthy eating, my passion for cooking, and my skills as a teacher are the basis of what my business represents. My mission is to create access to healthy and nutritious meals in the midst of a busy or chaotic family schedule, to bring fun back into the kitchen for adults and children, or to simply provide a little extra help for whatever one needs as it relates to meal planning or preparation.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been mountains, hills and valleys as I built this business over the last 10 years. My background is in teaching not business. Ten years ago there were not many personal chefs around. I had to learn how to create and build a business that was just beginning to emerge. Initially I joined several networking groups and had friends and family in various businesses that mentored me. I had a vision of what I wanted my personal chef business to be and that is what I worked toward.

Zoning in on my strengths and specialties took me some time. In the beginning I did whatever people needed and asked me to do from weekly meal planning, to delivery to catering. As I evolved it became clear that my specialty lies in accommodating allergies and providing clean, healthy meals. To best reach all those that benefit from this type of cuisine I zoned in on my weekly meal service and Meal Prep Workshops. I also continue to offer children birthday parties and cooking lessons since it is important for them to start young learning healthy habits and how to cook for themselves.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I celebrated 10 years this fall (2017) and could not be happier or more proud with where my business is now. My passion is teaching and cooking and through my services I am able to utilize both of these passions and spread the lessons of healthy eating and provide people with what they need. You only live once and you while eating healthy are important it has to taste good too!

I think my skill set as an educator is what set me apart from other personal chef companies. Cooking is a life skill that everyone should have access to. For those that don’t have the time or desire, they can hire us to do it for them, but for most people I “teach them to fish so they can be fed for a lifetime”. Through Sabine’s Cuisine services I can only reach so many people so I jumped at the chance in January of 2016 to tape my own cooking show with my twin sister, a lifelong dream come true! Now, through A Cleaner Plate, I can help so many more people navigate the world of clean eating and meal prepping once show at a time.

I love a challenge. I specialize in being the creativity and taking a recipe and finding just the right healthy substitutions or developing more efficient techniques for prepping and cooking. The custom nature of blending my professional expertise with my client’s individual tastes and needs allow me to be flexible and creative when designing menus and ensures delicious, healthy meals every time!

Whether it is through my full meal service, meal prep parties, or cooking lessons or my show A Cleaner Plate, my passion is to show people how healthy and clean can be incredibly delicious and absolutely attainable.

What were you like growing up?
Being active, healthy and eating well has always been a part of my life. At a young age my mother got all 4 of my sister and I involved in gymnastics. We all went on to become competitive gymnasts for a number of years. Once in high school, I decided to leave the gymnastic world and enter the world of high school sports, specifically soccer, cheerleading and track. In college, I became a D1 rower at Uconn where nutrition became more important than ever. This is when I really started cooking for myself and experiment with healthy substitutions to make some of my not so healthy favorites good for me. I went on to become a 4th grade teacher and cooking was my therapy after a long day of work.

I have always been an extrovert. This has certainly been an asset in my line of work as a teacher, a chef educator, and cooking show host. Whether I am in front of group of adults or children at a workshop or in front of the camera it is important to command the attention of those around me. I also enjoy sprinkling in some humor to keep everyone attention. 🙂 I think people would probably describe me as friendly and outgoing.

Even at a young age as a babysitter, teacher’s help and swim director, I was building on my skills I would then use as a teacher and now chef. I essentially create “lesson plans” for my workshops and birthday parties so they run efficiently and my classroom management skills keep them well organized so everyone can be productive, learn, and have fun.

I’ve had the good fortune of sampling a wide variety of Sabine’s Cuisine at various events and meal preps (which are a blast, btw). Her food is DEEEEE-lush! She always has great take-home tips and amazing twists for substituting one ingredient of concern for another ingredient, withOUT sacrificing taste. And perhaps the best part? None of her recipes are too crazy-involved. Parents who are pressed for time still can get it done.
