Meet Michelle Reid of Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Reid.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love of the hospitality/service industry began when I was a waitress and bartender while trying to begin a career as a professional dancer. When the dance career didn’t materialize I found that I could use the choreography and production skills from dance along with the food & beverage knowledge and service skills from the restaurant industry and parlay everything into a career in private events/catering sales. I started with an entry level position as a hotel catering assistant, and worked my way up to my current position of Director of Catering Sales for Granite Links Golf Club. I am a people pleaser by nature, and I love to make people happy. I love what I do, and I am deeply committed to providing our Granite Links customers with beautifully planned and executed private events.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t imagine any road is completely smooth. Ultimately it is the bumps and potholes along the way that lead to the most reward. Early in my career I struggled to find my voice, and I struggled to understand that advocating for myself actually meant advocating for my clients. Once I was able to make that connection, I feel I blossomed into a strong advocate for myself and my clients as well as a strong leader for my team. I am in a constant state of growth. I am grateful for what the bumps in the road have taught me, and I am ready for the challenges that new bumps will provide.

Please tell us about Granite Links Golf Club.
Granite Links Golf Club boasts a championship 27 hole golf course, professional driving range, the Tavern Restaurant and The Crossing Nines Patio Bar. We are also a top notch private event facility, and we host beautiful events in both our Grand Ballroom and our Pavilion Tent. We are known for our challenging and perfectly manicured golf course, our fine food and beverage, our exemplary service and more than anything else, our breathtaking panoramic view encompassing the Boston Harbor, Boston City Skyline and Blue Hill Reservation. And the sunsets at Granite Links are to die for!

As a company I am most proud of our continued growth and our continued willingness to explore our processes and question ourselves so that we can continue to improve and perfect our product. During the time I have been at Granite Links we have strengthened our infrastructure, promoted a positive work culture, and increased our visibility in the Metro Boston area.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is any memory involving my Grandfather. My Grandfather was an incredibly powerful and successful business man, yet he always remained humble and kind. He was a dedicated family man and an incredible human being. He would play restaurant with me for hours, indulge my need to endlessly sing and dance to the Grease soundtrack, and make me laugh with his seemingly bottomless reservoir of silly puns. He led by example both in business and in life, and if I am half the person he was, then I know that I have succeeded.
