Meet Morgan Furber: Model, Actor, and Life Enthusiast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Furber.

Morgan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always known that I wanted to perform. From the start, I’ve been drawn to the spotlight; if there was a camera, I was in the picture, if there was music playing, I was dancing, if there was a stage, I was on it. I can’t explain it other than an instinctual draw to other people and to expressing myself. Working my way up from student fashion shows, school plays and trade-for-print shoots, I was named one of “Boston’s Top 10 Most Promising Models”, while still in high school. In the years since I have been featured in Vogue Italia’s PhotoVogue, modeled frequently on NBC Boston’s The Hub Today, and even landed a featured role in Amy Schumer’s new movie I Feel Pretty, in theaters now! Networking and building lasting connections have been my greatest tools for success.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I was little my mom knew that I was going to be tall, so she put me in acting and dance classes early hoping to achieve grace with my stature. I towered over the all the boys, grew out of my clothes nearly the second we left the store, and was constantly reminded by strangers in the supermarket that I should be playing basketball (just to be clear, I do not). At over 6 feet tall I would say the key to success at this altitude is to own it. Some people think that models are perfect. I didn’t become a model because I’m perfect, I became a model because I’m different. In the early years modeling gave me a life outside of school where I was praised for my height rather than ostracized for it and gained confidence in myself. This initial confidence grew into business sense, networking skills and independence. I’ve always loved my height and encourage others to do the same, whatever brings uniqueness to you; embrace it, own it, love it. We often fixate negatively on one aspect of who we are and forget all the positive. Every one of us has something wonderful to offer the world.

Please tell us about Morgan Furber: Model, Actor, and Life Enthusiast.
As a working model and actor, I’m constantly looking for opportunities to expand my repertoire and sharpen my tool set. While I am best known for my runway modeling, I also work as a print model and commercial actor. My most recent projects include a commercial for The Spa at Norwich Inn, a Tufts University student film, a TV pilot and a commercial shoot for Arizona State University. Last summer working on I Feel Pretty, thanks to Boston Casting, definitely sparked my interest in film acting as well! I’ve been working on student films to prepare for the next round of auditions; it would be so thrilling to land a speaking role in a major motion picture this Summer!

My fascination with humanity is what drives my passion for acting. Studying how people think, talk or behave, creating a character, and then reflecting this mirror image for the viewer is the most fascinating process. Connecting with other people is universal and this is my way of doing it. It’s really important to cultivate talent in our beautiful city of Boston, which is why I am excited about our burgeoning film industry thanks to the Statewide Film Tax initiative! There are great opportunities here for actors and productions alike as we see more and more projects coming our way. Many people see Boston as a jumping off point and relocate once they feel they’ve reached their peak. I would love to see Boston become a destination instead of a pit stop, and I think that’s the direction we’re headed. Being in the thick of it, it’s clear that the actors, casting directors, teachers and production teams in this town are passionate, driven people, who have so much to offer the entertainment industry.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I value professionalism and client satisfaction above all else, so I think what sets me apart is my business sense. I have a Bachelor’s Degree with an Individual Concentration in Consumer Behavior from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and I’ve always treated my modeling, and now more recently, acting, as a business. I think about everything I put on the web knowing anyone could see it and always look at the bottom line. My advice to anyone starting out would be to create, promote and respect your personal brand. In today’s working climate, hardly anyone will stay put in the careers they start off in. Because of this, I’m working hard to take what I’m learning in the entertainment and fashion industry and constantly think about what’s next. Whether it’s mentoring other models in the future, creating a product line, reporting as a fashion insider, directing, producing, or advising, I hope to continue building my personal brand, learning about the industry as well as my craft and cultivating relationships in preparation for what is to come.
