Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Alper.
Lori, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My passion for natural, non-toxic living began over 19 years ago after seeing first-hand how living an organic, non- toxic lifestyle can directly affect your health and well-being. My commitment and dedication towards living a healthier lifestyle was strengthened when my own health was compromised and when two of my children were diagnosed with life-threatening food allergies. After practicing law for many years I decided to trade in my suit and follow my passion- to educate myself and others on how to live as naturally and as toxin-free as possible. I launched my website, Groovy Green Living and I work daily to practice what I preach with my three teenagers and my groovy husband.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The most prominent business challenge throughout the years has been the switch from a consistent income stream as a practicing attorney to a freelancer. I’ve managed to find balance and flexibility in my life and that makes life as an independent contractor appreciated and worthwhile.
My green living journey has also been met with some challenges. Raising a family and incorporating non-toxic foods and products has been interesting. There’s been rebellion and many discussions over the years but my hope is that my children have learned why we’re teaching them to read labels and make educated choices.
Please tell us about Groovy Green Living.
Groovy Green Living was born out of a passion for sharing information about green, non-toxic living with others. At GroovyGreenLiving.com you will find ideas, thoughts and other useful tips and trends relating to building healthier families together.
My commitment and dedication towards living a healthier lifestyle was strengthened when my own health was compromised and when two of my children were diagnosed with life-threatening food allergies. I knew something in my own life had to change. I began educating myself about the products I was putting in and on my body. Once I had the information there was no turning back. I had to share it with others.
I hope I’m known to be a credible source in the green living space. I’ve worked hard to provide information so everyone can make their own educated decisions about safer products. We are all on our own path and what works for me may not work for you. It’s important to have the information so you make an informed decision.
I’m most proud of a petition that I started asking Procter & Gamble (makers of Tide) to strip a cancer-causing chemical out of Tide Free & Gentle®. The petition went viral. Over 78,000 people stepped up to the plate and demanded that Procter & Gamble change the formulation of their Tide laundry detergent. After almost a year, Procter & Gamble, makers of Tide® and Tide Free & Gentle® detergents agreed in a California court to reformulate its detergents to reduce levels of 1,4 dioxane to below 25 parts per million!
