Life and Work with Amy Hendy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Hendy.

Amy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have loved fashion/style my entire life. After discovering that the practice of law was not my lifelong desire, I made a career change. I began selling a clothing line based out of NYC and conducting closet edits/personal shopping. Soon thereafter, my family moved to Italy with our two small children. I kept up rigorously with the latest fashion and style trends while exploring Europe and following many of the biggest style bloggers. A few years later, I found myself in Boston. Just a little over a year ago, I started my own fashion blog on Instagram. I have been so fortunate to experience steady growth and wonderful opportunities in this industry over the past several months.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have been very fortunate to experience what I consider “success” in this fashion blogging world. I have loyal followers, wonderful friends, and am starting to make some money and gain fun opportunities with reputable brands. I will say, it’s been a lot of hard work! Sometimes, I think others see Instagram posts and assume that the blogger threw on an outfit and took a picture. What they don’t see is the amount of time and effort behind that post… shopping for and styling the outfit, creating the background scene, editing the photo, and linking the featured items. Plus, it is much time and effort to grow and maintain your Instagram following. I am “new” to all of this, but my best advice is to stay genuine. Know your style and stick with it. Be consistent in your posting. Be kind and encouraging to other bloggers. Set boundaries and work hard within those limits. I am a mom of three young children. While I’d love to devote much more energy and time into my work, that’s not possible for me right now. But, I’m doing all I can as smart as I can with the time I have available. Hopefully, setting the stage for the future.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a member of the RewardStyle team and referred to as an Influencer. I maintain my style blog on Instagram. I chronicle my daily looks, date night outfits, and deals. As primarily a stay-at-home mom of three, I think my niche is “chic mom style.” I try to get dressed most days and demonstrate that moms can find and wear clothes they love. I believe it makes us feel better about our role. I love putting creative and stylish outfits together and teaching other women how to mix and match a closet full of items they enjoy and want to wear.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Put yourself out there! I have never been shy, and in this business that’s served me well. I’m not afraid to introduce myself and ask for advice. Look for other women doing what you want to do, and get to know them as best as you can. Support them and they will support you back.
