Check out Melissa Thyden’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Thyden.

Melissa, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
For my entire life, I have been completely enthralled with all things art and fashion. Specifically, colorful 80’s illustrations, stage costumes and rock music aesthetics. After attending sewing camp at age 8, I casually made outfits and sketched dresses often. I took ballet and dance classes, and the highlight of the season was when our sparkling costumes arrived. During college, I studied illustration and worked at Guitar Center. Obsessed with bands and the local music scene, I began designing band T’s, merch and album covers for anyone who needed it. One day, I was bored in my studio and hand-painted on a pair of shoes. They were a huge hit on social media and I opened up an Etsy shop with 8 pairs of hand-painted flats. My store was called “Cosmic Unicornz” ( a name I came up with inspired by my love for whimsical glitz and glam. ) I slowly added more items to my shop, including Tshirts, accessories and sewn items. Now I have my own website and I focus on custom outfits, fashion shows, vending music festivals, and photoshoots!

I now have a popup shop at 333 Huntington Ave inside 333 Barbershop and Salon and am a vetted artist in the Haus of Threes Fashion Collaborative!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I pour my sense of humor, my soul, my obsessions and my life into every piece I create!

I make fun, festival fashions and casual wear for anyone with a wild sense of style. I imagine nostalgic images from my childhood mixed with heavy metal and glitter.

I hope my pieces go on adventures, whether its on stage, out to the club or in the audience! Even at home taking selfies, you will stand out in Cosmic Unicornz!

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I think that we live in very confusing and sometimes scary times. People need joy brought to their lives more than ever and I try to do that through my work. I want to bring smiles and happy memories to all! 🙂

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can see my work on my instagram account @cosmic _unicornz and my website www.cosmicunicornz.com
