Conversations with the Inspiring Gladys Morgan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gladys Morgan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Los Angeles, in a not too good of a neighborhood; there was drive by’s, drugs, gangs; you name it, it was there.

One day, I was walking in downtown LA with my dad, and he saw a United States Marine and told me if I ever wanted to join the military. I should be a Marine; because they were the best fighting force. I really wanted to move from where I was living and become something better from everyone around me. I thought that if I stayed there I would never be able to have a great life. So, I had decided to become a Marine.

9/11 happened and no one could change my mind about joining. I joined and really wanted to leave California and travel the world. But, because the war in Iraq I got stationed in Camp Pendleton California, where they needed the manpower. I wasn’t happy about this, but my family was! I was only 3 hours away and could come home every weekend.

While I was in CA, I deployed to Iraq for a year, which I like to say it was the best thing that has happened to me. I learned a lot about myself, learned that material things didn’t matter only the person next to you willing to give his or her life for you.

After getting out of the Marines, I fell in love with eyelash extensions and finally decided to take the plunge and get my esthetics license to perform the service. My at the time husband and I were ready to relocate after living in California almost 10 years and since he was from Massachusetts, we decide to come here. I got my license here in Massachusetts as well as California and have been doing eyelash extensions ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have never had a smooth journey, but the military teaches you not to give up. No matter what! Always try a new way, a different angle.

The results you want are not instant. It takes time and all the hard work, blood sweat, tears and determination will show.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Lash Architect story. Tell us more about the business.
I work at Rise Beauty Studio Co on Newbury St, I am the Master Stylist. Although it is a great title, I feel like once you hit master you know everything.
I never want to stop learning, from learning you will grow. And, I need to show my team that there is no end to making yourself better.

As the Master stylist I offer Classic as well as Volume Extensions, Lift & Tints as and waxing.

The Owners & Manger are amazing women, I love this company for the fact that I am not just an employee but part of the family.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Honestly, it is hard to find someone that you look up to, in my option. Someone that you strive to emulate. And not just become them, but find your own niche, and grow.
so I’m still working on that and myself.

I do need to venture out and network more! It’s something that I need to do this year!
