Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Curtis.
Alexa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started A Life in the Fashion Lane back in 2011 before blogging was even a thing! I’m originally from Mansfield, CT and never fit in and school, so I started a platform to help me deal with my body image and confidence issues. Now, it’s some time later and I run A Life in the Fashion Lane full-time, along with my nonprofit on social media and mental health.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No! Not one part of this journey has been easy. Everyday, I question and second-guess myself, but that’s all part of the journey. Honestly, my best piece of advice is to never give up on yourself. If you’re starting your own company or brand, all you have is yourself to rely on. Don’t look to other people for appreciate or acceptance, because your company will be the most successful when you ask yourself all of the big questions first.
Everyday is different – sometimes things are going so smoothly and sometimes, you wake up and you’re like what happened in the past 12 hours!? You have to be willing to adjust and have fun with it: don’t get too worked up over the rejection or the stress. It’ll pass, I promise.
what should we know about A Life in the Fashion Lane? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m known for being a young adult advocate and entrepreneur who talks pretty openly about social media, body image and mental health. I started my blog when I was 12, not expecting it to become anything, so I think that’s definitely what sets me apart. I run this company because I love it – there’s nothing else I could imagine myself doing. I adore talking to teens and young people all around the world. Knowing I can help someone feel happier or more at ease with their journey makes all of my battles totally worth it.
