Meet Dj iET of Dj iET Entertainment in South Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj iET.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dj. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started about 2003. I went through about two name changes before finally settling on Dj iET (I.E.T.) around 2005. Prior to deejaying, I remember recording the nightly show on 88.9 WERS Boston (Emerson College). I would then edit it all to make a sort of compilation of Hip Hop & Dancehall hits.

During the beginning stages of my career as a deejay, I did not own any equipment. I utilized audio editing software to create mixes of various genres of music! That idea was not popular amongst the local deejays here in Boston… In France however, the use of software (i.e. Mixmeister) was very popular and common.

During this time I would frequent many nightclubs and parties. I would pass out CD after CD to the local deejays and people who were willing to give it a listen.. Many deejays shrugged me off (which in hindsight they were valid). Once I mastered the software, I knew that I had to master the art of deejaying live.

I purchased some equipment, and practiced every single day for over a year straight. Once I developed the skills needed, I was ready to make my debut. The opportunity presented itself at Club Vertigo (State St.) in Boston (now Lens Crafters). From that point on till this day, I have been fortunate to deejay numerous events local and abroad.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By all means no!!! Some of the struggles that I faced, was getting different promoters and club owners to work with me. That process, I would say is part of actually becoming a Deejay! The hardest challenge that I faced was the transition from it being a fun hobby to a business. When I was learning the craft it was fun and free of limitations… Once it became business & politics I struggled in the beginning… I had to come to the realization that deejaying is more than a party in my headphones. It is a business of keeping the dance floor packed and the bar full! It’s about what the customer wants to hear, not what I want to play (customer service). It’s about getting the crowd to escape for a few hours and let loose! I had to learn to shake hands with everyone. I had to approach the nightlife world in an unpretentious way.
