Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadine Adams.
Nadine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have over 25 years of experience working as a Physical Therapist and over 30 years working in the fitness industry as a Personal trainer, Pilates instructor and Group exercise instructor. The past 10 years I have worked primarily with pregnant and post-partum woman helping them rehabilitate their core strength, physical fitness and regain functional strength in their day to day lives. During my 2nd pregnancy at the age of 41 years old I found a large Diastasis at 29 weeks pregnant, coincidentally enough in a workshop on Diastasis Recti. Knowing I was going to have to take care of a 2.5 year old toddler, a new born infant, try to return to teaching Fitness classes and lifting patients as a physical therapist, I set out to learn all I could about managing Diastasis Recti. I started testing all my clients for the separation and found that it is was much more common than I realized and unfortunately very under diagnosed. Through my own personal experience living with Diastasis and learning how to manage it I knew I had to share with others what I had learned through my research and that is how my program Restore Your Core REHAB™ evolved.
Fast forward 8 years later, countless hours of research, taking courses from other professionals specializing in this area, and most importantly from my experience working with 100’s of clients with Diastasis Recti, I have learned so much about managing this condition and the special needs of the pregnant and post-partum clients. I am also and educational presenter for a Fitness education company and have a love for teaching, a passion for helping others and am continually taking courses myself to offer a holistic approach to patient care.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am a true clinician at heart and the biggest challenge to date is running my own business. I have two young girls at home and wear many different hats both professionally and personally. The balance of motherhood and business owner continues to present its challenges. I am blessed to have a very supportive family who helps keep me in balance.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Restore Your Core REHAB™ story. Tell us more about the business.
The official name of my business describes the titles I hold: P3 Fitness: Pilates, Personal Training and Physical Therapy. The Restore Your Core REHAB™ Program is the name of the Diastasis Recti management and treatment program I offer during pregnancy, post-partum and return to fitness.
Simply put a Diastasis recti is a weakening of the connective tissue (linea alba) leading to a separation of the two sides of the rectus abdominis which is the outermost abdominal muscle.
I specialize in treating Diastasis Recti and dysfunctions of the Core and Pelvic floor through the continuum of Care helping woman manage the functional demands of motherhood, hobbies, return to work, fitness or their sport safely without compromising the healing tissue.
I offer small group and duet training and private individualized women’s health physical therapy services during pregnancy and post-partum. I offer Educational workshops on Core Rehabilitation in the presence of an abdominal separation, as well as specialized workshops on modifications to Pilates, Barre and Yoga in the presence of a Diastasis Recti for safe effective workouts for the core and pelvic floor.
I offer two small group training programs. The Restore Your Core REHAB™ class is a 6 week comprehensive program combining online training with weekly small group classes to ensure effective retraining of the Deep Core & pelvic floor system while learning optimal strategies to manage the tension on the healing connective tissue during functional activities of daily living and exercise. I combine manual therapy sessions, education, kinesiotaping, exercises, video tutorials, weekly handouts, email check ins, group texts and a private Facebook page for accountability.
For the graduates of the Rehab phase I offer an 8 week Advanced workout Restore Your Core AMORE which combines cardiovascular and muscle conditioning with progressive return to more advanced core exercises teaching strategies to protect the connective tissue while safely returning to more advanced fitness activities.
I offer free screens to all clients interested in any of my programs and childcare is available at my classes. I welcome children into the individualized private training sessions and include the babies and children into the education and training components.
Combining my 25 plus years of experience in the Healthcare and Fitness industries I offer a holistic, well rounded approach to care. I combine my manual training and knowledge as a physical therapist with my years of experience teaching and developing fitness and exercise programs. I have taken and continue to take continuing education courses and certification programs in Women’s Health Physical Therapy and pregnancy and post-partum exercise.
Living with Diastasis Recti and managing it myself during my fitness classes, my day to day life, and the demands of all my physical jobs, I can personally relate to the changes my clients bodies are going through and their physical and emotional concerns.
I understand what their bodies are going through first hand and can relate to the need to return to their exercise classes or sport and the desire to go for the “gusto” and not modify their post-partum or pregnancy workouts. I was there, I am there and I help them with strategies to return safely without compromising their injury.
Motherhood is a Sport and places many different physical demands on their changing bodies. My programs help them to safely condition themselves to play the most demanding game of their life.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
This is an interesting question for I believe in fate and karma and paving my own path to success and feel luck has played less of a roll in my life and business. There have been good opportunities and challenges that have presented themselves but hard work, selfless decisions and a true passion and desire to help others has played the greatest role in my life and business. I have always said that I was meant to be a physical therapist and feel honored to help others return to be more functional, healthy and fil.
There is no greater reward than knowing that my program has positively touched and helped another person Live the life they were meant to live.
