Meet Renee Ciaramella of Park Shuttle and Fly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Ciaramella.

Renee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My father, John DaMore, and his late business partner, Dick Ray, operated a Dollar Rent A Car location on Bremen Street in East Boston just minutes from Logan Airport. Not long after they signed a lease and began operating the rental company they were offered a better location for the business on airport property which would allow the new car rental company to prosper. Park Shuttle & Fly was born in 1975 out of a need to pay the lease on the old car rental property.

I have worked for our family businesses since 1979, in many different areas and capacities. Since the sale of the rental company in 2013 and the semi-retirement of my father I have gently taken over the reins of the business. My main objective has been an overall streamlining of the parking business. The main focus has been computerization of Park Shuttle & Fly, facility and equipment upgrades, website development and online marketing. I guess you could say that I evolved into the Operations Manager. For years I was behind the scenes in the parking business, now I work side by side with our experienced management and great staff.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been an easy business. In the beginning years we second guessed whether a parking lot outside the airport with a shuttle bus would work, but we eventually grew out of our small lot and expanded to our present lot on McClellan Highway.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Park Shuttle & Fly – what should we know?
Park Shuttle & Fly does just like the name says. We park your vehicle and shuttle you to the airport so you can fly where ever it is that you are going. We offer a simple system, drive up to our window and check in, pull up to the valet lanes and board the bus. On the return back to Boston customers give us a call and we dispatch a bus to pick you up, then return you to your vehicle.

We are the only off airport parking facility in East Boston. We are the closest parking lot with no drawbridge delays to deal with. We have thousands of frequent parkers who have been parking with us for more than 40 years. Our staff is loyal, many have been with us for decades. General Manager, Pat Flavin, has been with us for 40 plus years along with some of our attendants and lot personnel.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My father, John DaMore, instilled the work ethic that I have today. He is the driving force for the success of Park Shuttle & Fly. He still oversees as much as he can and doesn’t hesitate to chime in when he doesn’t agree with something I’m doing. He is a well-respected business man with a wealth of knowledge, always a great one for advice.
