Meet Katherine Bator of Prep of Boston in North Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Bator.

Katherine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Prep of Boston when I was in college and was big into preppy outfits! I wore Vineyard Vines and Lilly Pulitzer every day and always had on a statement necklace. I created the Instagram account when I realized some of my followers (my friends) were really interested in my outfits I was posting on my personal Instagram account while others (i.e.: my brother) were not as interested. I created my blog a few days after I graduated from college in May of 2015. I went to college for Early Childhood Education but I soon realized this was where I wanted to put all of my time and energy. I went full time with Prep of Boston after working as a Social Media Coordinator for a small company and then as a Marketing Assistant for a startup! I love what I do and never see it as work but rather something I have the privilege of doing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Working for yourself is not easy and taking a chance on yourself is not easy! Going full time with Prep of Boston was a risk I was willing to take on myself and although every day is a new day with its own challenges I wouldn’t change my decision to make this my day job ever.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Prep of Boston is a blog and Instagram account for all things fashion and lifestyle. I love that my page moves with whatever chapter in life I am in. For example, I just got engaged and my Instagram and blog will now be shifting to all things wedding for the next year! I like to be very honest on my Instagram stories as people who follow me know. I am most proud that people who know me and follow me say that I am exactly myself on Instagram and my blog as I am in “real” life/in person. I only promote products or clothing that I would purchase myself and think are on brand for me. I would never promote something just to get paid and I think that people see that.

What were you like growing up?
I am a middle child and was (and still am) everything stereotypical that comes along with being a middle child. I am a goof, a homebody, a baby lover, and an emotional girly girl. Growing up I played lacrosse but also sang in the chorus at school. My mother always says I was incredibly well behaved but I think she just forgot about the naughty things I did. My sister and brother are my best friends but we definitely argued growing up and I always felt like it was always my fault (middle child problems). I always loved pretty dresses and wearing red lipstick–still true to this day.
