Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Bellemare.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been into doing hair. My poor dolls can attest to that. After graduating high school I took a year off because I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. My stepmother owns a salon in Houston and I’ve worked at a salon since I was about 16. But I never really thought it would be for me. I just didn’t realize how far you could really go in this business. But after a little bit of pressure (suggestions) from friends and family I decided to go to hair school. It’s definitely a hard career to be in. You really have to be good at what you do and have tough skin to make it. I ended working in some amazing places and had some pretty amazing people in my chair through the years that has sky rocketed my career. It’s honestly the best job in the world. It never feels like work. But even in the worst days.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was really young when I started, so I was a little all over the place. Hahahaha I actually quit and did only bartending for a few years. It’s important in this career to find a good “fit” otherwise it’s really easy to get discouraged. I guess I’ve been really lucky, I mean I went through a few places but none were bad and all had their growing experiences for me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Marc Harris salon – what should we know?
I’ve been doing this for almost 17 years now. I’ve worked really hard to get where I am and I’m really proud of all that I have accomplished. I would say I’m definitely known for doing the dry cut, which I specialize in and balayage. I also do a lot of event and wedding hair.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think I’ve been successful because I really take pride in what I do. I genuinely care about my clients and meeting their needs. And I have no problem going the extra mile. If you look good then you feel good, I truly want clients to feel good.
