Meet Rachel Dugan (Sanson) of Hairaholic Salon in Mansfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Dugan (Sanson).

Rachel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
At the age of 24, I opened my own salon in downtown Mansfield. Like most coming out of school, I started out as an assistant, and eventually moved to the floor as a stylist. After 5 years of working at the same salon, I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to be my own boss, so I ventured out to try something new and exciting!

When I opened my own salon, I had four stylists follow me from our previous salon. Crazy right?! These girls put all their trust and careers on the line and followed a 24 year old, who just wiped out her savings to open her own spot. With drive, determination, lots of courage, and extreme passion for hair; we made it! Now, almost  8 years and multiple awards later, I’m still with my AMAZING ever growing team!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The struggle was real! When first starting my own salon money was tight. In a busy downtown area with higher rent every penny counted. I started out with limited retail and minimal color orders, because I couldn’t afford to order in bulk. As our clientele and business grew so did our inventory.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hairaholic Salon – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I as an owner and stylist believe that continuing education is a priority to myself and my stylist. Invest in yourself and your future.

I like to stay up to date with the newest, latest and greatest styles and trends for our guest.  I feel like what sets us apart from other salons is the stylists all have different specialties.  We have someone for everything, and they do it great! We have a few stylists who specialize in vivids, stylists who specialize in curly & texturized hair and others with foils and cutting techniques. We also have a “perm queen”, a makeup master and all of the stylist at Hairaholic specialize in up styles and special occasion hair.

When we say specialize we mean it! When a client wants something specific we always have a stylist we can recommend customized for that guest.

Specialize to us means many classes, hours of practice and trial and errors. When we go for something, we go 110%

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans for the salon is to expand our location and grow. Isn’t that everyone’s!?
