Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie-France Noel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marie-France. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A visit to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake awakened something in me. While it was a devastating time, surrounded by art brought me comfort and inspired me greatly.
I grew up in a large artistic family that instilled an appreciation for art in me. My late uncle, KÉLÉ, a painter influenced me the most. I felt closer to him being back in Haiti amongst the vivid colors and surrealism art that he painted so eloquently.
When I got back to the United States, my renewed spirit and creativity birthed KADOKÉLÉ, with the mission to preserve my culture and keep my uncle’s legacy alive.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think all entrepreneurs can attest that the road to entrepreneurship is a bumpy ride. I have faced and continue to face my share of obstacles and challenges. Early on some of the challenges were how to get the word out and build a niche market. Today, some of the challenges are how to maintain consistency, introduce new products and increase brand awareness.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kadokele – what should we know?
KADOKÉLÉ is a lifestyle brand stimulated by Caribbean art. We offer unique apparels, clothing and hand-crafted jewelry.
Our aesthetic and message sets us apart. We aim to inspire all to Live Artfully by living kindly, purposefully and unapologetically. We are known for our signature hand-painted shells and wire pieces as well as and colorful garments inspired by Caribbean living.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Everything changed once I realized that I was the brand and not the other way around. Then, I was able to connect with people on a personal level, share my story and inspiration behind each collection. And I’m grateful for each connection that has turned into clients and loyal fans.
