Today we’d like to introduce you to Pam Santorelli.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had an interest in fashion and merchandising, since as far back as I can remember. I worked in retail and/or marketing from my very first job… and graduated with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing. After a couple part-time jobs during college, etc., that then lead me to a full-time position at Louis Boston as women’s sales associate. Louis was a high-end fashion boutique, with a long history of creative designers and talented staff. I knew I wanted to open my own store one day and eventually got up the courage to open a small boutique in South Boston. Habit is a women’s clothing and accessories boutique… that is about to turn 12. It’s been a wonderful journey thru ups and downs, but we are still here and I love it. About three years ago, I and my two friends/business partners opened up a lifestyle boutique about 10 doors up from Habit. We sell a variety of items for men, women, babies, etc. We also feature local artists and have home decor and much more. Retail/fashion has always been a passion of mine and I’m lucky enough to say… I love what I do!
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road! There are lots of ups and down in small business. The economy, the weather, staffing can greatly impact business. My advice would be to start working in the field somehow. Get to know your business. Be open to advise and be eager to learn. Save money and pursue your dream.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Habit and Wears + Wares – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a boutique owner/buyer for Habit and Wears + Wares. I do everything from sell, buying, merchandising and clean. All the duties wrapped into one. I am a visual person and love to create a wonderful visual experience for people to enjoy while shopping or just saying hi. I really do love merchandising the stores and finding new and exciting lines to carry.
What sets us apart from others, in my opinion, would maybe be our very “neighborhood” store feel. I think people enjoy just coming by to see what’s new and fresh and to say Hello. It’s not just about selling… I want it to feel good regardless of what a customer is buying or not!
Who have you been inspired by?
My mother! My friends and family. All of the women in my life are hardworking and independent. I have been taught to work hard from day one and I do!
