Meet Laura Emerson of Piggy Toes Photography in Norton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Emerson.

Laura, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Welcome to Piggy Toes Photography.

Here are a few things you should know… Iced coffee keeps me sane, beaches make me happy, and I would love the honor of being your baby’s first photographer. I have been blessed with three perfectly beautiful, happy, healthy children myself, and they are my world.

I’m also a wife (to probably the most supportive, helpful, talented and handsome guy in the whole universe), friend to many, lover of all things chocolate, and hot summer nights. I’m often brought to tears, what my kids call “joy tears”, at the sight of a perfect new baby, or an aptly timed worship song.0

And new babies. Sigh. New babies are just “my thing”. Can I say that? Their smell, soft flaky skin, tiny little movements and noises. Just adorable little bundles of perfection. And since mine are grown (watch out, it happens fast!) I want to capture this oh-so-important time for your family. Because she won’t always fit so snuggly in your arms as she does during those first few weeks.

Piggy Toes specializes in newborn and baby portraiture, capturing your sweet baby during her very precious first year of life. I am trained in newborn posing and safety, and fully insured. I had the pleasure of mentoring with some of the best in the industry, including Amy McDaniel (Dewdrops Photography), Erin Elizabeth Photography, and Baby as Art. Also, since moving to the new studio, I’m now available to shoot full sessions or Watch Me Grow mini sessions for your children past their first birthdays.

Piggy Toes Photography is a full service portrait studio, specializing in baby portraiture. I am trained in posing and photographing newborns, and have been fine tuning my craft since 2008 (or, as my kids call it, the olden days!). I offer styled sessions for newborn, baby/milestone, and first birthday sessions, as well as studio maternity session. Older children as welcome, too, and I do offer a few {limited edition} holiday sessions each year, in the spring and fall.

Your Piggy Toes experience will begin with an initial consultation, when I’ll hear all about your family and why you chose to invest in professional portraits. We’ll discuss how to best style your session to fit your family’s personality, and schedule the session date. (If you’re a newborn client and do not have a scheduled delivery date, we’ll schedule the session after your little one arrives).

While at the studio, you can relax on the couch with a hot coffee and a good magazine, while I carefully soothe and pose your little one. We are a full service studio, offering our clients the finest props, blankets, clothing, and accessories for use at your portrait session.

About a week after your session, you will return to the studio for your gallery viewing appointment. At this time, you’ll have the pleasure of viewing your entire gallery of images, choosing your favorites. We’ll discuss wall art and other print products, and work through the gallery together, deciding which beautiful images will be hung in your home.

Your Piggy Toes experience continues when your package of goodies is delivered. I love how excited parents get when they open a large print or canvas wrap, and am often brought to tears myself while carefully looking through an album.

I strike to make every client’s experience personal and magical, and treasure the friendships I have made with families who continue to trust me with their precious babies.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a small business owner, along with mom to three busy school-aged kids, definitely has its challenges. There are days when everything goes right and you feel like a success, both as a business owner and as a mom. Most days, it’s a struggle between juggling your time and maintaining a focus on the reality that this small business has the purpose of providing for my family. So, as much as I love babies, it’s important to get the business end of things all lined up, too. Time management, finance, customer service, software, client management… all of these non-creative parts of the business take up lots of time and energy. But, at the end of the day, I get to spend time with my kiddos when they need me most, and that’s what really matters.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Piggy Toes Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Boston is an amazing city, rich in history, and populated by an eclectic mix of Boston-proud people. Our family especially loves the historical buildings throughout the city, and love roaming through Faneuil Hall on warm, summer nights. One thing I wish we could change about the city is the cost of enjoying so many of the downtown attractions and events.
