Meet Katie Daly of Renegade’s Pub in East Boston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Daly.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years. I joined this group two years ago in order to open Renegade’s Pub. We have been open for almost a year and could not have imagined a better ride!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest obstacle was probably the initial opening. I was working at Salvatore’s downtown with these guys and also dividing my time trying to get things ready here. It was a lot of grunt work initially and hours upon hours of work. It was worth it though.

Renegade’s Pub – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a small pub in East Boston. Most of our sales come from our beer and spirits, but we do have a varied selection of smaller plates. We aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel, but we do want to provide a place for people to feel comfortable. We have a lot of repeat customers that have not only become friends but more family. It is amazing to see how the dynamic has grown.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is knowing that a product works. I was in sales full time for almost ten years and I always felt like I was selling snake oil. For here, I have a bias, but I recognize what customer wants and needs are. Also, keeping this place familiar. Customers come in to see us as individuals, not just what we serve.
