Meet Jeannie Vincent of Beauty Mystic in Peabody

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannie Vincent.

Jeannie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I moved up to Boston from Naples, Florida in 2003, and got my first job as a makeup artist shortly thereafter at MAC Cosmetics in Chestnut Hill. From there, I worked at Fresh on Newbury Street for six years. This was by far the most formative and transformational part of my career. I learned so much from both my direct boss and the founders of the company. I am forever grateful for my time at Fresh as it led me to my first editorial makeup job at the Boston Globe. One day, our head of PR called the store and asked if anyone was available to do make up for a Globe photoshoot. I eagerly volunteered, even though I had never stepped foot on a set before. I’m so glad I did! I continued to take freelance jobs whenever my schedule permitted, passing the gigs along to other makeup artists if I was already scheduled to work, as I didn’t want to jeopardize my position in any way. I hated leaving my Fresh family, but I was ready to grow into my next role at Karmaloop as beauty buyer and resident makeup artist. After that, I worked at Chanel on Newbury Street for three years, during which I was introduced to the clean beauty movement. I joined Follain for a few years, before finally striking out and my own and enrolling in esthetics school. I will be graduating from Elizabeth Grady this coming June, and I launched my business Beauty Mystic this past fall.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have been fortunate along my path. I can attribute much of my success to my genuine relationships with people. There are definitely days when you feel like you don’t hit a job out of the park, but you just have to learn from it and confidently push forward. The biggest challenge I have is with patience; when I want something, I want it right now, in the moment. Patience has been a daily practice for me, and it’s not always easy, but it is always worth it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Beauty Mystic – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I launched Beauty Mystic as a way to merge my love of beauty with my love of the metaphysical. I believe that beauty is most effective as a spiritual practice. When you connect with the products you’re using and the ritual itself, you see the biggest results. Right now, my company functions through pop-ups around New England, as well as 1:1 consultations. My strength lies in tuning into what people need and matching them with their perfect products and routines. Since I have over a decade of working hands-on with thousands of products, I am able to work within my clients’ budgets and preferences when making recommendations. It’s something I never tire of, and I’m filled with joy when I receive texts that people love something I introduced to them.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love most about Boston is that we are a city of seekers, constantly ready to learn more and integrate new technologies and techniques. What I dislike is the bad rap we get as being unfashionable, though I can see where people are coming from with that critique.
