Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassandra Gil.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kassandra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in the Dominican Republic, I came to the United States in 2011 to my aunt’s house. I lived with her and my three cousins.
When I was in high school, I started going to YMCA with my cousin We used to go to a kickboxing class. I remember I didn’t know anything about fitness I thought if I lift weight, I will look like a man. I was super scared to lift a dumbbell more than 5 lbs., hahaha! I thought I had to cut all the carbs to be skinny.
I started going with my cousin every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. The class was very hard but every time, I went I felt good after we finished.
After I graduated from high school, I got a job at dollar tree the first job I was so excited, while I was at QCC college taking ESL class I started going to the gym by myself. All I remember was doing leg, abs and cardio almost every day. I didn’t think about training other muscle groups. On top of that, my eating wasn’t right! I used to buy pizza with wings and eat it by myself in the room, I used to buy cookies on dollar tree and eat the whole package, My lunch was a snickers bar and a soda after I ate everything I felt terrible. I felt I was very fat, Then, I wanted to do cardio to burn all the calories I just had. That was around 2012-2014.
December 2014, I was in the Dominican Republic with my family, I remember like it was yesterday. I told my sister take this pictures they are going to be mine before pictures. I don’t know how I’m going to do it but I’m going to work on myself. After I came back, I told my boyfriend I wanted to do a training program I started looking on Instagram and I found the Beach Body Guide by Kayla Itsines it was very popular. I saw all those amazing transformations. I told myself I’m going to commit to doing a 12 weeks program get up at 5 am and go to work by 8 am. My boyfriend was very supportive, the day I didn’t want to go, he was there texting me, calling me at 5 am. When you are doing something important for you are good when you have someone behind you, pushing you when you need the support and the extra push.
After I finished the guide I fell in love with training I started searching online how to train with weights. 2015, I got certified as a Dental assistant, I worked full-time 8am-5pm but at the same time, I was training 2 friends at the gym. I was working out at 5 am go to work 8-5pm then at 6pm I trained two friends. They were giving me money for gas and I really enjoyed training them. In 2016, I did a 4-week program to build muscle by Massy Arias. My goal changed, I wanted muscles, I didn’t want to look skinny anymore, I wasn’t scared to lift weight like I was before. The relationship with food changed, it was amazing!
The same year, I decide to get certified.
I made a big move in 2017, I quit my job as a Dental Assistant. I moved to Providence, RI with my boyfriend and I decided to start my own business.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was not easy, there were days where I did not want to continue with the journey. But those days, I always remembered WHY I was doing it. If you are stating out be patient, work hard and surround yourself with people who lift you up.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Business – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I train women in Providence, RI 1 on 1. I train them outside or at my garage (studio). We do high intensity workouts with ropes, dumbbells, stability ball, etc. Because I know we all have busy life. We train for 30 minutes intense. Especially if you are a mom or a college student who only can have 30 minutes, this style is awesome!
I also train clients online, I love it because I’m able to train people around the world. It can be at home or at the gym. It’s depends how the person would want to workout.
My vision is to help women to pursue to be the best version of themselves and have a good relationship with food.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Yes, when I grow up, my mom always taught me that when I want something, work hard to get it and never give up! Even if I want to. She’s been my biggest supporter. I’m glad to have her.
