Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Giorgetti.
Christine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up as a ballet dancer, I spent a lot of time in physical therapy. When it came time to choose a college major, I knew that I wanted to help people in a similar way that my PTs had helped me. I decided to major in Clinical Exercise Science at Ithaca College. Upon graduation, I took my first job working as a personal trainer in a small, private studio in Natick, MA. I worked in various gyms for a few years as a trainer and group exercise teacher, before landing my first job in corporate fitness in December of 2013. I’ve worked in corporate fitness ever since, as an exercise physiologist, fitness specialist and now, general manager. I love corporate fitness because it not only incorporates personal training, but also health/wellness education, group exercise, and more. You get to be so creative when working in worksite wellness! The only downside is that the gym I currently work in is private and only for the employees of the building that the gym is in. In 2015, I started my online company, CMG Health & Fitness, so that I could reach more people outside of the corporate gym bubble. I now have the ability to train and work with people no matter where they live!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Corporate fitness was always my ‘dream career’, but it took awhile for me to get there. I worked hard to work my way up from part-time, to full-time and now to manage a gym.
My online company is still very small, even though it’s been 3 years! Getting started was hard because there are already so many people out there who are doing the same thing as me. Figuring out how to make myself stand out and be different was a challenge. I’m still figuring it out! Within the last year, I’ve been really focusing on building my brand. On Instagram, I do weekly “Humpday Exercise of the Week” posts on Wednesdays that’s always a glute-specific exercise, and “Fitness FriYAY” where I cover some sort of fitness topics like home workouts, equipment, exercises, and more. I also post healthy recipes and nutrition info! My blog focuses more on overall health and wellness, rather than just fitness. My goal has been to put out good, high-quality information and helping as many people as I can. Juggling running a gym and running my own company has been hard, but it’s so worth it. I love that I can help people all over the world!
My advice is to just stick with it and work hard. I know a lot of people who started out in the fitness industry and ended up completely switching careers. It takes a long time to build a career in fitness. No matter what social media tells you, it doesn’t happen overnight. You’ll work long days, you’ll get up at the crack of dawn, you’ll work weekends, but it will all pay off! Another piece of advice is to network! Go to seminars and conferences, meet other professionals in your area, and make connections via social media. You never know what could happen or who you could meet!
Please tell us about CMG Health & Fitness.
I am a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine, a Certified Precision Nutrition Coach (level 1), and a Certified TRX Trainer (level 1). I am currently the General Manager of State Street Bank’s corporate gym in South Boston, where my responsibilities include personal training, teaching group exercise, running wellness programs, giving health and wellness seminars, and keeping the gym running smoothly. I also run my own online company, where I train people online and in-person. I offer both exercise and nutrition programming, including a special “Sweating for the Wedding” program!
I have experience working with people aged 8-99. I specialize in weight/fat loss, strength increase, beginner exercisers, special populations, and wellness education. I recently published my first (free!) e-book, called: The Booty Book, which is a glute-training manual. It includes 50 glute-specific exercises, glute activation warm-ups, glute workouts, and glute burnout finishers!
The thing that I am most proud of is my clients’ success! I believe in hard work, steady progress and real results. I teach lifestyle change and the importance of consistency. My clients never crash diet or receive cookie-cutter workouts. Everything is tailored specifically to the client based on their goals. Seeing people reach their goals, become stronger, and improve their life is the best part of this job.
Personally, I am a competitive powerlifter. I made the switch from classical ballet/modern dance to powerlifting my senior year of college. I have competed 7 times, and I finished within the top 2 every time.
Who have you been inspired by?
Definitely my mom. She’s a neuro-physical therapist and she went back to school to get her Doctorate in PT when she was 55 years old! She’s always taught me to work hard and go after what I want. She’s shown me that it’s never too late to go after what you want. By the way… I’m one of 3 kids and my sister was in middle/high school during the time that my mom was going back to school! She managed her schoolwork and her life at home wonderfully.
I’m lucky to have grown up in a large family with a lot of amazing women who have set great examples for me. My grandmothers, aunts, and cousins have always been a source of inspiration for me.
I’m also inspired by countless women on social media, some I have met and some I have not. The power of social media is amazing, and the fitness community is filled with inspirational ladies! Girls Who Powerlift is one of my favorite accounts. Their posts are so amazing and whenever I need some gym motivation, I watch some of their videos!
