Meet Abigail Belisle of Coloredbyabby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Belisle.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up I was a tomboy I was never interested in beauty but at the age of 13, my mom bought me my first makeup set and a straightener. After that beauty was all I wanted to do. I enrolled in Texas Collage of Cosmotology at the age of 16 and within a year I had my hair license.

I assisted in Texas for about 6month and moved to Boston. Upon arriving in Boston I got a job on Newbury street in one of the well-known salons. At this salon, I worked alongside some of the best stylists in MA. Now I work in Davis square as a color specialist.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road. Last year I had to take a break from doing hair for about a year because I got really sick and I couldn’t hold a brush or scissors let alone stand on my feet for 10hours. I had to take a year off and do more of the business side of the salon life. It has gotten better now and I am back to doing what I love.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in color. I do more of balayage and foils and foliage. My clientele is more blondes but I do have clients who have hair of every kind. I think I’m different from other stylists because I really do take my time. To me hair isn’t about making money, Its about making every woman feel beautiful and good about themselves.

What were you like growing up?
I was a tomboy growing up, I liked to snowboard and play soccer with my brothers. I was never into beauty. I was shyer never really spoke much and kind of kept to myself.
