Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Wood.
Matthew, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am originally from Plymouth, Ma and after my service in the United States Marine Corps. I began college a Northeastern University where I developed my love for photography, I initially got into photography because some of my friends were also into photography. Over time I began receiving a request for jobs from various brands, and I realized that my calling was as a fashion photographer and influencer.
What brought me to the position I am in today is my passion for creating beautiful imagery and my determination to learn everything there is to know about photography. I would like to say that what drives me to pursue this artistic medium is the power to catch little moments that are special for eternity, and the joy people receive when they look at my pictures.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it has been a smooth road because there is no such thing as overnight successes. It takes hard work, determination, and the gift of an eye for beauty. I’m someone that grew up in a single mother household, with limited opportunities so I’ve had to make my own way and adapt and overcome adversity along the way.
The initial struggle was buying a camera and learning editing techniques because I am almost entirely self-taught with the exception of one basics class at Northeastern University. I will say that photography is something that I use as an escape from the struggles I have experienced in the past when I am taking or editing photos the rest of the world just disappears.
Please tell us about Woody Photography firm.
I am a freelance Photographer, I specialize in portraits and fashion photography. I also do landscapes and cityscapes. I am most known for my portraits and I would have to say those are the picture I am proudest of, because of the joy the client gets seeing the finished product. I would have to say what sets myself apart from other photographers is my style an how unique it is, and also my creative vision is something that I haven’t seen many other photographers do something similar to. I am not scared to try something or take on a task that others would be nervous about taking on.
